Question about Norway
Hey all,

I searched through 25 pages of past topics as well as other parts of the internet, and couldn't find what I was looking for, so I hope someone can either give some advice, or point me in the right direction.

So, I am planning on moving to Norway to work on a farm, and wanted to know the best region to go to. Once you pick the place you want to live, you are committed for a couple months, which is why it's important to pick carefully in my case. Does anyone know where the biggest concentration of jump-able cliffs are? And do people jump during the early months of the year? I read elsewhere they don't...

If not, any recommendations of where in Europe to go until it's jumping season in Norway? I was thinking Italy, but when I lived there a year ago, the winter was pretty brutal as well.

Thanks!

How are you going to get a work permit?
Why should they choose you instead of someone from cheeper low cost country in europe? Your profile says USA, but you could be from?

I'm an american who has worked in Norway. I know it's possible. We're pretty cheap by y'all standards Tongue
Perhaps it's a cooperative farm that doesn't require a work permit.
To answer your question, the best place for beginners, that is beginners of terminal cliffs, is Kjerag. The closest city is Stavanger.
Andalsnes is the town central to Romsdalen, a popular area further north. This area requires far more effort per jump, and you'll need some friends to get to exit points.
As far as winter jumps, never done it but my understanding is that they're few and far between.
I might say head for Voss. there's some nice jumps in the area, a nice dropzone, and it's an equal drive to kjerag or romsdalen.

edit: spelling

Well, it's not for money. You work 4-5 hours 4/5 days a week for free food and a place to stay.

Aka: no work permit needed. I would get the weekend off to go jump, so I wanted to be as close as possible to as many cliffs as possible.

Awesome, that's some good info to start, thanks!

The one farm that seems the best (aka, fewest hours required. Laugh) is in Møre og Romsdal, which is only 80 km from Romsdalen. But how easy is it to make some local friends to get to the exit points?

Edit: Dorkzonehero was kind enough to give me some good info on where everything is located. I think I have a pretty good general idea on where I want to stay.

Only problem now is finding somewhere warm for the winter with good jumping. Any suggestions?

For Norwegians 80 km is shopping distance. NO PROBLEM. The problem is all this illegal aliens, stealing our jobs for peanuts :-)

You could probably stay in Dorkzone's bed. He likes to cuddle. That's what I heard from that tattoo homo in Portland, anyway...

Will there be free food?

If you want to work on a farm, by all means!

If not, leave me to my peanuts and cliffs.

If you dont mind hiking 1000m mountains kneedeep+++ in snow, in 10-20 bellow celcius and jump down with all the stuff you need to bring for a hike like that, you can jump all year.
Think i did 4 jumps in Romsdalen this winter, and i live in Oslo, so with the right motivation anything is possible. But in the winter its pretty much dark after workhours, so you need to catch the good weather in the weekends...

If you want to jump alot though...go to lauterbrunnen in the winter. There you can jump all winter without a sweat.

Mabye you can get a job making holes in their cheeze?

Speaking of Norwegians driving: Dorkzonehero remember the all nighter we pulled to hit up several objects and our "tour guide driver"?? My heart still skips every 3rd beat just thinking about that drive to try and make the ferry.

Also to the OP, when over there watch out for those damn speed cameras.....I think I'm a wanted felon still?

I think I'll pass... working my ass off in freezing weather only to get 4 jumps in for the winter doesn't sound fun.

Doesn't it snow just as much in Switzerland? Whenever I lived on the italian/swiss border it was snow covered and miserable all winter. I'm guessing lauterbrunnen has some pretty easy access exit points?

I defiantly want to jump all winter long to get in tip top shape. Dorkzone said that if I beat him on a climb, he will give me one of his rigs. *cue rocky music.* game time.

I won't have a car... ahaha. I know what you mean though, it's getting really bad in Europe... America too.

In LB you walk down to the exits, in Norway you walk up. Personal preferences i suppose :)
My back and knees likes walking up better so i'll stick to Norway :p

The season here is 12 months, but a bit harder between mid november, and mid february. But if you cant take good winter weather, you will freeze your but off in the summertime to. Believe me!
