Looks like Perrine bridge. I'm pretty sure he hit the water before the parachute began to open, so this would be a fatality. This one maybe http://www.splatula.com/bfl/#bfl104 ?

It was his first post, cut him some slack.

But I haven't heard anything about this and searched everywhere... and can't find a thing. It defiantly wasn't recent.

Thanks. I was thinking that the descriptions on BFL being inaccurate was more likely than that fall being survivable.

I guess I was wrong:
"The Times-News (Twin Falls, ID) June 18, 2006

The plunge creates quite a rush for BASE jumpers --until something goes wrong.

Ask Jason Cooper. On May 26, the 29-year-old Canadian plunged from the bridge, his parachute streaming unopened behind him.

He hit the Snake River at about 90 to 110 mph, by his calculations. He suffered a broken scapula, half a dozen broken ribs, four fractured vertebrae and one punctured lung.

His injuries required two weeks of treatment in three hospitals. But he is expected to fully recover, and to jump again.

What saved him was a combination of luck --he landed on the muddy edge of the … "

Actually that's a different accident too..

The jumper in question walked out of the water by himself with only a sprained ankle. He was standing up in the water gathering up his gear before we could even run over from the landing area.

You guys must run pretty fookin slow because I didnt see anyone rushing to his aid in the video except the 2nd jumper and the boat Tongue

Glad he is ok. My friend had a nice little streamer doin a Mary Poppins when we were at the Perrine. Unpacked jumps seem the be the easiest way to jack yourself up at that object. Of course I'm no expert, we should prob see what CarBombski thinks on the matter Wink

So I have been waiting for someone to state the obvious and since they havent i guess i will. Doesnt anyone else think the tail wind was kind of high for an unpacked jump? When he rolls it over the wind completely blows the canopy all over him then when it comes off you can see the wind grab it and twist it up. Likewise, watch the second jumper and look how fast his canopy starts flying downwind when he pops his toggles.
Shortcut
Re: [FreeFallFiend] live leak vid posted
Definitely too tail windy for anything where you have to flip over your canopy. He probably could have gotten away with a regular TARD no problem.

Unpacked Jumps...
with a strong tail wind.

The Kite-Under works well.

Re: [GreenMachine] Unpacked Jumps...
Yeah? I used to think that too. Until a friend came into town and insisted on doing one on our 270ft freestander. After the 3rd time of climbing on the outside of the steal under the exit point leaning out with my back to the ground to untangle the lines from the object i decided it was no longer a good idea.

As far as I'm concerned when the winds are honking a healthy delay is your friend.

Re: [FreeFallFiend] Unpacked Jumps...
I bet with PERFECT TAILwind from a bridge a kite-under would work just fine.

Hey all. Just a quick heads-up -- I got a message from a producer (now posting in this thread too) for "TV's Top 20 Most Shocking" asking about the video at the top of the thread, wondering if I was the guy in it. The media seems to be taking an interest in this one, so if you're not keen on participating you might want to pass on commenting here.

Re: [JBag] live leak vid posted
OK, I'll spill the details as no one else seems to want too, i was at the bridge that weekend and chatted to [jumper A] both before and after the accident aswell as witnessing the whole thing.

this was an APEX FBJC being ran by [jumper A], [jumper B] and one of the locals, [jumper C]. on the saturday morning of the course after PCA-ing his students for there 2nd jump [jumper A] decided to show the students what base is really about.

he went onto the plank and had planned just to do a tard due to the strong tail wind but while out on the plank he hung the canopy down and felt no wind so decided to go for the tard over insted.
from then on the video is pretty self explanetry, his thoughts were that he had a high up twist which prevented the tail gate from coming off untill the last minute.
he spent the whole ride pulling his risers apart trying to kick out the twists before putting feet and knees together for a PLF into the water.
after inpact he was siting up in he water before anyone had time to get to him and was then taken away by the police boat which was first on sceane.

he was back walking with minutes and continued to teach the course for the rest of the weekend

not sure what lessons can be learned here other then dont fuck up and when checking the winds make sure there isnt a giant bridge in the way...oh and always PLF!

My profile is anonymous due to my current involvement with "the company", one of the many joys of the internet.

i did not however post the information to stir up shit or feed the media, my reasons behind it were because these people are running first jump courses and charging over $1000 per person and i felt anyone paying that much money has the right to know how these courses are really run.
i know i will probly get slated again for saying this as the company normily has excellent reviews for there courses how ever the same could not be said for this one going by what i saw from the outside and what my friend on the course had to say about it

I don't know who Matanza is and whether this actual footage is from the mentioned incident, but I will confirm that an incident like this did happen and it involved the mentioned person running a course. I was there jumping that day but didn't see the jump unfortunately as I was packing at the time.

Hi, my name is Michi. I'm a Swiss BASE jumper. I did illegal jumps before. I got rescued by Helicopter before. I sometimes suck in jumping but I was lucky until now.
Honestly, I like the taste of Red Bull much better than gofast...

Re: [Matanza] live leak vid posted
The date of the incident was several months ago and has reportedly been posted some time ago on youtube, however, seems to have generated a lot more interest once it was headlines as "BASE jumper plummets to death" on another internet video forum. Once posted here, it generated considerable interest, yet no technical discussion (although strong tailwind was questioned some way down the thread). People just enjoyed the show.
One poster then warned that the media was taking an interest, trying to establish the identity of the jumper so that he/she could feature in one of their programs. So, unless the jumper would like to be part of some cheesy "I should be dead" re-enactment on national TV, it was suggested he/she should keep quiet. One can just have a look at the consequences as a result of the media coverage of the latest Little CO thread.
I am sure the jumper in question would have been happy to pass on any lessons learned if someone had actually asked a question. Somehow I fail to see how the name of the jumper adds much to the enjoyment of watching the video and am sure the people who know him, probably have seen this video, Jumper B's video and jumper A's video for some 3-dimensional perspective.

So "Matanza" needs to remain the anonymous, but is happy to pass on individuals' names so that the media can harass them. Maybe these individuals have also current involvement in "the company".

It is 'noble' that you are trying to protect future jumpers.
How about gathering more facts and mentioning other FBJC companies so that people can make valid comparisons. If incidents are your only criteria, what about when the only instructor on a course is standing on top of the bridge without a rig on while his student (who paid close to $1000 as well) is drowning after landing in the water (and he probably would’ve died if a person that just happened to be on the shore didn’t jump in the water to get him out). This is just one of the examples. There are plenty of the FBJC incidents you could compare.
At least Jumper A that you mentioned, showed his students that “spending the whole ride pulling his risers apart trying to kick out the twists before putting feet and knees together for a PLF into the water” is THE way to deal with the situation when things go wrong. Plus, you said there was 3 instructors on that course, which probably means that even if Jumper A got seriously hurt, the course would’ve continued just fine with the other 2 instructors.
This post has nothing against FBJC companies out there. All of them have highly skilled instructors. I just want to make a point that it’s not fair for you to isolate just one company. It’s BASE jumping. Shit happens.

Matanza wrote:

How about “If shit happens do everything you possibly can on the way down so you can walk away from a 6 second 486’ fall” instead of “Don’t do your course with this company”?
