Container for sub terminal
Hi,

Couldn´t find any topics related to this. I just bought a Apex DP container. Reading the manual is said "intended for high/terminal jumps". Does anyone know if this container is unsuited for subterminal stuff? Hope not

what does your mentor say?
how about your FJC instructor?
call Apex?

personally, that sounds like something you probably should have known before purchase.

Why would you buy a DUEL pin for subterminal? You need a single pin.

What the vid666 nutsack said, gonna die.

It's a good thing you asked. This container actually is only designed for terminal jumps.

Before the DP they had the "Warlock" and the problem is that they were noticing with the 2 pin configuration with how APEX closing flap was that anything less than terminal jumpers were having premature pin popping. Leading to several horseshoe mals.

The development of the DP was to refine the Warlock as just a strictly terminal container. Nothing less.

The DPw was designed for slider off and sub terminal jumps in mind. The unique design and low profile was tested and the premature pin popping was not an issue. This was due to the different location of the BOC.

The Velcro rig APEX makes is for the really low jumps. It's not recommended for anything greater than 250 feet. This container at any height greater will like ALL velcro rigs give you the same premature pin popping but more like premature velcro tearing. Again causing the notorious horseshoe mal.

And finally, the TL and TLs are for static line jumps. The TLs being for the really static static line jumps. Hence the TLs.

So basically you bought a container only for terminal jumps. Depending on what you like to jump you need at least 3 more containers to jump several different heights just to be on the safe side.

You can take your chances jumping the DP on objects below terminal but you're gonna die!!!

Re: [wwarped] Container for sub terminal
To be fair, I think that since the majority of us use our gear for subterminal jumps, and I see a lot of DPs out there being jumped on everything, it could be pretty surprising to a purchaser to see that in the manual.

My Perigee Pro manual had some nonsense like "Do not go handheld in freefall with this container."

I asked about that after buying the rig from a reputable dealer who knew exactly what I was going to be using it for and was told not to worry about it.

Totally going to die. I'll defiantly buy it off you though.

I'll start the bidding at 1 dollar.

Don't do it. Get a velcro rig. Velcro rigs were just recently invented just for sub term jumps. I cant believe your mentor didn't mention it. I would go with the same velcro rigs you used in your FJC. Ill bet your old AFF instructor has one laying around. Go ask him.

right on. I jump a 2 pin for low stuff as well. Just get a huge ass pilot chute and you're good.

None of the major BASE manufacturers I know of made a PC big enough for low duel pin jumps.

I stole a drogue from a Sigma on the rig rack.

I actually just use an old 18 foot round....

I don't think that's complete nonsense per say... there is the risk of prematurely yanking out 1 or both pins if you extend your arm past the length you had routed.

I personally would not worry about that... but I think that's what the manual is referring to.
