Mode of Transport
How many of you who BASE jump have some form of Transport? If so, what is it? Having a car seems like an important part of BASE, but in reality especially Britain, most jumps are just a walking distance away from a train station.

Re: [JBag] Mode of Transport
when i was in Texas, i would frequently travel 80 to 100 miles on way to the middle of nowhere to jump. kind of like the old wild west.

Recent statistics research have led me to believe that both cars and motorcycles are more dangerous than Base. So from now on I'll be Burro powered. It was good enough for Jesus.

I'll second that. Parts of the world are diffrent but I think england and texas are at about the most of opposit exstreams. You basically can't live here with out a car. It's just not layed out for it. It's normal to live 30 or 40 miles from where you work. We're starting to get some public transport but any one from europe would laugh at it. It's just expected that you will own a car and drive where ever you go. I can't go to the store to buy growsries with out driveing my car. and that's with out even going any where. We don't think twice about driveing a couple hundred miles each way just to pick something up. I recently drove up to Denton and back, about five houres each way just to go pick up something that I'd ordered. It was an uzi so I had to sign for it there, and that's another diffrence, You can actually own guns here, halaluya. You can drive a thousand miles each way, from top to bottom and side to side, in a straight line with out even leaving the state. Ok, sorry it's only about 800 miles as the crow flies but the roads a little twisty some times. My point is it's a decent size country unlike england.

Most importantly. This is something I tell to any european I meet here. DO NOT RIDE GRAYHOUND. Just don't do it. If you are a young pretty woman, hitch hike. It's safer. You're better off getting into that windowless van with the bearded guy, hat and dark sunglasses.

I think this could have been separated further by if you are from europe or the rest of the world. As it is quite obvious that you have no chance of getting into BASE without a car in America.

Not necessarily, it depends on how much your crew likes you Tongue I have two friends with hundreds of jumps each that only recently got cars.

Myself and Base#230 Hitch Hiked Hiked all over the UK and mainland Europe in our early days......Base#28 used to cycle all over the UK to Jump, Base#283 Hitch Hiked from East Coast to the West coast of the USA just to get his first Cliff jump and then back again. Not having a car is an excuse not a reason.

Nice story, shows pure dedication, and in instances like that I can see the travel getting there being better then the actual jump itself.

Re: [Cal.B229] Mode of Transport
Right on Cal.B229, indeed, great story. Just goes to show the major differences in generations. My (our) generation goes out and buys one or two brand spakin' new custom rigs after 5 jumps at Perrine, then drives around in their $40,000 SUV with custom rims and a lift kit, then bitches about your generation fucking up legal jumping in national parks. You guys jumped modified skydiving gear, hitch-hiked, and rode bicycles to get to exit points.......Absolutly Love It!!!!Cool Wish I could have been around in those times!

Right on. I am in the new generation of base and I just got back from hitchhiking from the east coast to Twin Falls and back.

It defiantly was as much an adventure as the jumps themselves...
