IS A Good Vid. ,Not necessarily less control but a perfect example of 'Not taking control' & coming strait from the skydive DZ and trying to pull that shit canopy piloting in a BASE DZ environment .

That's a fitting video for incidents. If you want to know what happens when you do a relatively technical jump without doing anything after opening, now you know.

Instant reflexes and canopy control is important. Sometimes you're screwed, but that video is an example of what can happen when you're not prepared and just go for it.

The vid is quite long, did you mean the behavior of the guy in yellow of the bridge? It seems everything went pretty fast. Do you think it was there enough time to clear the offheading?

What is the purpose of this thread? No one discusses anything that went wrong...

as I introduce once in while some people into BASE I'm very very thankfull that somebody opened this thread and giving me this tool by doing the work. It is anyway already out there in the net and only must be collected.
So why not post more of these links here and even delete all blabla around this thread (including this post).
For my opinion it is a good balance to all those perfect edited videos out there where whuffo and skydiving people start to get the impression BASE is as easy as it looks like ...
I will continue to use this here for educational reasons. So I don't need particular discussions as it is most of the time obvious what happens ... at least in consequences.

Hey there was no off-heading opening to speak of and it was within a top-10 good ratting . So nothing to discuses there at all for that .

was long but definitely some good learning from that Vid.
Ok, Look @ the Vid. The Big work started for this guy after a perfectly good Opening & Heading . He was 'sucked-in' and 'over his skill level' from a easy access and exit to a canopy strike on the wall . An easy jump that needed good canopy & Accuracy skills . this Jump NOT EVER a high technical set-up and landing but just knowing how to put your 7-Cell BASE Canopy to work the way it was designed too .

( 0.35 sec. )Look down @ the LZ on that vid. & it was huge .

The problem . it was a little tight down there for a LZ and the walls moved-in on him and his peripheral vision & he brain-locked and totally screwed the pooch.
The Pilot did nothing for canopy control . He just let it run full flight and did a skydive DZ's Sashays back and forth to 'attempt' getting set-up for a his final approach for a runway type landing in his brain that did not materialize .

Was a perfect example ( like Hookitt said ) it was total brain overload for the Pilot . He was/did a BASE jump with the bare minimum of learned knowledge for canopy control .

He did not know his canopy or how to shut-down his forward and had no knowledge of doing flat-turns .
Also, sometimes the best route for a tight area like that is to just do nothing. Other than just shut the canopy down and just ride an imaginary wire strait down to a landing spot right under and ahead of you .

Now look @ the way that person in the Vid. & he was all over the map on panic survival mode & 'HE WAS' pulling everything out of his ass that he had accumulated for survival canopy skills . Not Good .
You would be surprised at just how a good canopy pilot that is shooting accuracy makes very little moves with his canopy. The mark of a good BASE jumper is canopy efficiency and walking away in the LZ .

Same Bridge/object was the guy in the yellow/black stripe canopy.
Not a Bad Heading but did not attempt to stop forward speed after opening .
& Also notice How Fast his canopy took-off on speed after opening. Possible no Deep Brake or improper Deep-brake setting for his body weight .
Was a case of beginner over his head on BASE jump.

as far as I'm concerned, this is a library of potentially useful videos. it merely lists examples of how things can go wrong. if a jumper (or potential jumper) needs help to sort out what happened, they should ask a mentor, a FJC instructor, or an experienced friend. they should also be careful attempting a similar jump.

if users wish to discuss in detail any particular video, it probably should be broken out into it's own thread.

as always, I'm open to suggestions!

 
So basically what your saying is . The Thread purpose is to seek/find every fucked-up BASE jump on youtube you can . With Jumpers making mistakes and good Carnage involved for all to watch . And then catalog it here but Never discussion in any detailed about any particular jump when someone asks for answers ?

This looks a little over-micromanaged on your part but you are being tactful in your improvised Rules you are making-up & giveing on the fly for ( no detailed discussion ) & ( suggested advice for jumpers seeking information ) . But I don't think you have thought this though before Posting .

I do not think it came from all the competent mentors, FJC's & experienced friends that gave guidance before they took the video for the BASE Jumpers in the Vid . Or a jumper (or potential jumper) being careful in seeking answers to questions before doing his youtube debut.

I had a friend that had very little to no knowledge about BASE but was ordering gear and planning on teaching himself. I showed his some of these videos and told him he needs to learn alot more and he cancelled his order until he gets more experience. videos did a good job. glad they are here.

These both seem to be PC hesitation, rather than low pull.

This seems to be to more the result of a low turn than a low pull. I would suggest making a new category for low turns and or landing error as I am sure there is no shortage of these type mistakes on video.

90 percent of people in this video were hurt as you can see except maybe the last jump where (pure skill was involved)...

In my opinion those kind of vids should not be here and should be kept by ourselves.

I have a full video of these guys sitting at home one of this official group died in kjerag this year...i am pretty sure its him , When i met them they gave me a dvd of there russian antics and it showed that on there.....

I don't see how that impact was survivable.

It's not graphic video so why? For example, if jumper is filmed when he strikes a wall and lands on the ground but is not moving, does it matter if he/she died or not? Should we delete Ueli's video too? How about all other videos too where we aren't 100% sure if the jumper died or not. Do we have to have first hand confirmation for every video that it doesn't have fatal accident before adding the video to the list?

In short, if it's not gore, it goes to the video list.

Nope, guy died in kjerag this year is Anton, the guy on the video is Ratmir (helmet saved his life, broken leg and smth else - he was fully recovered and continue jumping), also Ratmir was with Anton on kjerag

I can also point out that that wall is extremly! difficult and dangerous, you have about 80 meters to impact. A sane person should not be stupid enough to jump from there without a ramp(which lowered the impact point to 200 meters). As for doing flips, well...

Yes, you are right, slider-up is a stupid thing on this exit point, now almost all jumps from it are slider-down.
There was a ramp project also on this exit, but it ended up as a wingsuit fatality :(
unfortunately, two lifes were needed to our crew to understand that this hill is not a mountain :(

What's the story behind this? The description claims he deployed in "a bad angle" but it doesn't look like his body position was all that bad. Regardless, scary.

Wow. Certainly cutting it close if the angle of a small hill saved him from that. How much canopy did he get out? What was the mal? Injuries?

No mal, he got unstable after the gainer, spent too long trying to get stable and deployed late.

Got a mostly inflated canopy which got torn up in the trees which broke his fall. He borrowed a rig and kept jumping an hour or 2 later with just a few scratches and bruises.

The only malfunction I see is that he jumped with Patto all summer!

I had a low pull in Norway with this exact scenario....trees and angle of earth saved my arse, scary stuff Glad he's ok.

He was basically in a sit position and trying to get back belly to earth. I'm not good mates with him, just jumped with him over in KL in '08 and got the story first-hand from him.
