Finding errors on pin checks
What was the last thing you found wrong on a pin check? I'm talking at the exit point all geared up. I subscribe to the "Cincinatti style" pin check still.

Re: [Twoply] Finding errors on pin checks
I have never found any wrong, but have corrected pins and bridle routing. There was a lot more problems with velcro rigs!

Pin check? hmmmmm, I dont do them. I do gear checks and found; Twisted MLWs, damaged lower junctions, chest straps undone, Zippers not done up. Untied shoelaces. etc.

(p.s. skydivers do pin checks BASErs do gear check)

When the gear check consists of a pat on the back and a "your good"

Re: [base283] Finding errors on pin checks
I have found many twisted MLW,s lately. No one ever wants to take their rig off and untwist it. They just opt to jump with the twist. I find it funny.

On a pin check, You arn't checking the pins to see if they are in. That is retarded. If they weren't in, the container would be open in a very obvious fashion. You are looking for a miss routed bridal which could be fatal.

I have seen someone get a pin check in the plane (sky jumping), and have a PC in tow due to a miss routed bridal. If you are doing a pin check, know what you are looking for!

Twoply, pin checks are for pussies! Way to keep it safe! Next time I ask you for a pin check, you better check my oil too. I want to see the mark on your dip stick!

Space, I could be being really thick here (it has happened occassionally!) but what do you mean by a 'lower junction'?

Re: [JBag] Finding errors on pin checks
We call it a pin check cuz thats the last part of the check but it's typically a gear check. Basically checking the continuity of all straps, check the bridle routing from hand to pins, check routing along container, and finally checking the pin tension and distance from the end of the pin to the loop.

Personally I like mine primed and ready to pop when freefalling our shit Wink

Lower junction: where the Main Lift Web (MLW) connect to the legstrap webbing (the parts that suspend you in the harness).

Re: [smskydiver] Finding errors on pin checks
I've found twisted MLW's, bridal misrouted under left side and out right side of bottom flap on a velcro rig, and mis routed three rings that had already been jumped that day (reverse risers with the grommet on the wrong side of the ring).

Check your shit... & your buddies' shit too!

Re: [Twoply] Finding errors on pin checks
At the exit point I have found:

1 3-ring that was not connected. The cutaway cable was not through the locking loop. his riser would have dis-connected as soon as it was loaded and the rig was packed slider down.

3 three-rings that were incorrectly assembled but probably would have worked.

1 Pin eyelet through the closing loop. Would not have come out until impact, when the closing loop would have probably broken and evidence of what happened might be gone. (this is why manufacturers started making the loops on the ends of closing loops too small for the eyelet to fit through.)

1 riser UNDER the jumpers arm. (Bridge Day)

A few soaking wet canopies, like, water dripping onto the ground out of the container. (also Bridge Day)

1 Shrivel flap with the bridle sewn at the bottom, eliminating the shrivel function. (also Bridge Day)

At the packing area:

One PC that was just too ratty to jump (I gave them a free replacement so they wouldn't jump that one)

One bridle that was not correctly attached to the PC (not including the center-line)

Incorrect PC size for the jump. 32" PC at the bridge in TF.

Re: [DexterBase] Finding errors on pin checks
I reckon on skydiving many many mistakes are found with gear checks as well. So, no suprises for me. Sorry I have to say this.

Re: [Ronald] Finding errors on pin checks
the big difference is the outcome if the pin check would not have been made...
