Starting out
Hey all, Not sure if I'm going about things in the best way or the right order, but I've decided on taking a FJC course at the end of this month. I understand I should have a follow up plan in place in order to continue. I don't know what the best way to go about this is and could use some help please.
I don't know any base jumpers at my DZ, but was recommended that offering to ground crew is a good way to start. I would definitely be willing if anyone is interested?
To give a little background on myself... I'm 32, been skydiving since 2007 with a little over 250 jumps (about 70 in last 12 months). Live near Croydon, pretty much South London really.
Any feedback of anykind would be really appreciated!

Thanks

2 quick thoughts...
- check out & inquire on a UK base board (it gets posted regularly, but I don't recall the url.)
- check out the Beginner's Forum for general advice. actually, this thread seems better suited to that forum. (things can get harsh in General). I'll help by moving it.

Good Luck!

Either BASE in the U.K. is really taking off, or the U.S. has learned to read.

no worries.

you are welcome here. feel free to read and ask questions.

obviously, posts to meet local jumpers, or about local objects are better suited to the UK board.

What DZ do you use? I'm starting to sky dive in spring (no BASE for a few years) and live fairly close to you (Surbiton), haven't decided on a DZ yet, was thinking of Headcorn in Kent.

If its still anything like it was when i was there id say avoid it, it was a fucking rip off.

Thanks! I'll look around some more then! I bought a car this year to get to DZs then couldn't afford to jump - DOH! Anyway... spring it is!!

Re: [HaydnH] Starting out
nearest dz to surbition is london parachute school, its a real small operation but a good bunch. generally only operates on a sunday. if you want a bigger dz where you can get more jumps in try weston, a couple more junctions up the m40, open sat and sun's

Thanks for the info, unfortunately I work shifts so once I get my AFF out of the way most of my jumps will be on weekdays, Headcorn say they're "the only full time DZ in the greater london area" on their site - can't believe that though.

well there's also hinton up the m40 ...operates every day except mondays and is open all year apart from 2wks over xmas i think. thats a nice club too. don't think there's much in it distance wise to headcorn.

Thanks, I may take a drive up to each some time and take a look around before deciding. HC is a bit closer and not much in it price wise..
