Funny encounter at NRG lz
I went to Fayetteville a couple of weeks ago and took my boys on a legal walk on the catwalk. While we were walking around at the bottom, I took a picture for this family so they could all be in the pic. When I gave the guy his camera back he proceeded to tell me that last year at BD was the first year they let someone with no experience jump off the bridge. I looked at him and said 'really?' He said he got picked out of the crowd to go second. I said did you do it? He told me they were having problems getting the gear and waivers sent up from the bottom. He said he waited former. He said he got to cold and left, but was going to do it. I just looked at him, shook my head and said 'All you guys are crazy.'

Sounds like BS obviously. The only jumper I know of who did it without experience or any formal training was Greg Campbell (RIP) back around 1990. Greg died on a bungee jump accident.

I believe the exit staff had a prank going on, I believe the jumper that went was in on it as well.

You are correct.

That is cool you took your boys
to see the bridge dad jumps off.

Yep, the company I work for on the rivers started the legal cat walk tours. The same company does the rappell and zip line on BD. I have pics on my fb page Tom...

I mean what are the chances of our paths crossing like that...

Harry Parker did the fake "pick a person out of the crowd" at BD2008 and the experienced jumper who was magically selected did a great acting job. It's odd that the guy you met made up the story about being chosen and the gear/waiver issue. We don't bring waivers to the exit point or LZ. It would have been funny to invite this guy to BD2010 and see if he'd really go through with it.

I remember when i was at BD 09 and they exit staff threw out the "hey, let's give someone in the crowd a chance to jump. c'mon, $150!" Obviously know one took them seriously....at least no one jumping. Some people....tsk tsk
