jumpers who shoot video...

...would you please, at least every 2-3 years, for the sake of entertainment of other jumpers, please EDIT SOMETHING TOGETHER!

All over the world, probably 2 out of 3 jumpers have cameras attached to them almost every time they jump but very few of you lazy fuckers ever take the time to edit some kind of masterpiece together.

I'm very disappointed with ALL of you.

Seriously, there has to be good stuff among those thousands of hours of video! Make a DVD!

No, I don't have a camera. It's just been ages since I've watched anything new (YouTube etc videos DO NOT COUNT, make an effort!)

The kind of BASE films from recent years I've enjoyed include such timeless classics as:
- Soul Flyers
- When Good Times Go Bad part III
- Solid 7
- Radix
- BASE Stories
- Superterminal
etc. etc.

...which are all absolutely brilliant, and all very different. I've seen countless "check out this one jump I have on my laptop" videos but someone should make a rule that if you video base jumps, you must edit some sort of compilation or movie.

Thanks, I finally got that off my chest. Looking forward to buying your DVD's!

Kege: Looking forward to buying your DVD's!

What is a fair price for:

1) DVD + Paypal Fee + Domestic Shipping?

2) DVD + Paypal Fee + International Shipping?

Hey Tom, I'd say something like $20 for your homemade awesomeness and maybe $40 for a more commercial type of dvd, like Soul Flyers. Also, the homemade ones are often more entertaining (core value) than them bigger productions! Like that Human Flight in 3D, I'm willing to bet the end product is going to suck ass.

edit to add: what I'd like to see is no more wingsuit proximity flying (we've seen that already and I don't see how much more hardcore can they fly), but more slider down stuff, funny stuff, weird jumps, cool people, urban stuff, missions gone less than perfect, drunken crazyness or whatever, just that all-around vibe that is BASE.

Having made one recently I think most people are okay with either getting and contributing video or doing the editing, but when you have to do both it is quite alot of time and energy that goes into it.

Re: [Ronald] jumpers who shoot video...
As I said Ronald, YouTube videos etc DO NOT COUNT. Editing together 6 jumps from your last trip to the valley and uploading it to Facebook for all your non-jumping friends to gawk at is not a BASE film... Those I see all the time. Make an effort, make a film and I bet a lot of your jumping friends and jumpers all over will buy it. Its not about money but thats a bonus, if your flick is good, word will spread. A DVD will be with you for years, them Internet videos are forgotten as soon you finish watching.

Good on you Matt and Elliot, hope you burn a few PAL versions as well for us non-Americans!

Tony thats exactly what I mean, jumpers who shoot video are usually lazy cunts (when it comes to making films). It all ends up on their computer, massive folders full of gigabytes of video on their harddrives and them poor fuckers are so lost with the sheer amount of footage, they have no idea where that one funny special jump is. Just a grey big scary mass of footage that very few dare to tackle... Avoid this, make films periodically!! ;)

Could you even use the expression "the sheer volume of footage"? :D

hahaha!

But yes, someone should make a BASE film in comedy style, Fast Show style maybe! Will it be you Markus, oh? Or were you up all night, rodgering the tart?

Re: [kege] jumpers who shoot video...
There are plenty of good and semi long (around 10 min) movies on youtube that are worth a watch, I probably have close to 2000 movies saved in playlists on yotube, alot of coll stuff if you look through them, bandit jumps, close calls, super close calls, funny jumps, crazy wingsuit flights, if you want to check some out send me PM and I will send you the link to the playlists, you probably will find some good stuff there. I was thinking about starting some small blog or something where I would post movies I find but I'm thinking that maybe people that post them wouldn't want that. At the same time if you post something on youtube and don't make it private you should expect that people that look hard enough will find it sooner or later. If anyone thinks that those playlists could be used in some productive way then send me a PM.

Work In Progress
It is easy to amass large quantities of material
to the point where weeding through it becomes
a time consuming chore...

I have a movie that is close to ready for release.
It is currently 45 minutes long, contains a variety
of jump types, objects, etc. including tree landing.

Regarding online videos, they are a great way to
cheaply share a jump with many people but the
image and sound quality usually suck.

I personally think nothing beats playing a jump flick
from a DVD on to a huge screen with stereo sound.

+1

Capturing is easy, going back and clipping, editing, and producing is the time consuming part. I recently made a 4.5 minute skydiving video that easily had 8 hours of so of just cutting down and selecting different clips, then at least another 6 hours to put it all together.

Right now I am working on my video submission for the BD comp. I've got 20gigs worth of video to go through, clip down, select the clips, edit, mess with the edit, select music and audio, mess with that, put it all together, then produce it. Easily gonna be a 20+ hour project for a 10 minute video.

You could purchase my recently finished 2010 Official Stavanger BASE Klubb Heli-Boogie DVDWink Granted I did take a long time to put it together. You just can't quickly edit excellence together.

Adios
