Re: [wwarped] what is a Beginner?
From my brief experiences in this community, I would point this conversation in a different direction. I don't think the issue with the Beginners forum (negative tone) is the definition of a beginner, its that all of the questions that are asked are easily answered by available resources.
Much like climbing forums, when a question is asked and the answer is easily available people quickly realize that the asker doesnt have problem solving skills and isnt self sufficient. This immediately drives a wedge between the person asking the question and the qualities of a climber/jumper.
I'm a beginner. Doesn't bother me in the least to be one because it means I still feel like I'm actively learning and not deluding myself into complacency with my knowledge.
A strategy that has worked wonders for me is to find the most relevant thread to my question, and start PM'ing the people who were talking about those topics with my question. The tone of those conversations are always superb (and normally i figure out why my question was silly and/or doesnt have as specific of an answer as I had hoped with little fanfare).
