Re: [enrichmylife] Korean BASE Community
Hey enrichie,

I've been over here for over 8 years. I've never read or heard a report of any BASE jumping. (that might be a good thing!)

However, this is the land of 240ft buildings! There's a lot of out of the way stuff with roof access galore.

Try looking up the only two skydiving clubs in Korea. They're on the internet and both based (ha) out of Seoul. They might be able to put you in touch with somebody.

BTW, I gave up on just skydiving over here years ago. I'll pick both back up when I get back to the real world. I'm living down in Pohang on the east coast. Drop me a line if you're ever down this way. I'll show you around and buy you a beer or 10! Wink

agreed, i spent a month down in busan a few years back, and was amazed at the buildings down in that urban metropolis. they are everywhere, and i bet access would be attainable.

Re: [zoobrothertom] Korean BASE Community
I've tried to have contact with Seoul Skydiving School. I was hoping to do a few jumps and eventually get very involved. It's hard to get a response from them.

The quantity of buildings is overwhelming. Access can be difficult. I was escorted out of a build I went up Sunday in Gangnam, Seoul. I just played dumb tourist and spoke English very fast. I needed to have a look.

If you have the contact addresses of any Korean skydivers please forward them to me.

I might be down in the Busan area in the coming months. I'd like to check out the progress in the Lotte building. Pretty high profile but it looks like they are going to have a viewing area right at the top.

Too bad you're not jumping anymore.

I have been in Korea for about a year now and gave up on skydiving too and it's killing me. If anyone dose find a way to skydive i would love if you could drop me a line. I am also am interested in learning more about BASE (not jumping or anything) just learning about what is involved so if anyone needs ground crew or help with a jump drop me a line.

Hey Guys!

Great to see any kind of thread started from Korea!Cool

Somehow, I heard a rumor of a C206 being ferried in for this last summer. I've racked my brain and can't remember where I read it. It must have fallen through.

There are several abandoned airfields (and whole commercial airports for that matter) in Korea down south that I'm sure the government would allow folks to use for skydiving.

The problem is that there are very few licensed skydivers in Korea. The high jump holder has about 5000 jumps but is/was military. I'm familiar enough with the 'system' nowadays from my business exploits.

Perhaps we, I mean us 3 or more foreigners, could hook up the Seoul crew with a viable jump aircraft to be brought in for next summer.

Right now they rent a helicopter (well, at least 3 years ago) and charge won 100,000 per jump. We need to get a few tandem masters with rigs over here for a summer gig. Having the tandems would fuel the publicity and might even cause a DZ to be founded at one of Korea's government surplus aiirports.

Just a thought.... Wink

BTW check out www.twgsteel.com - that's me!

Hey everyone,

This is starting to turn into more of a skydiving thread. If the moderators would like it moved to dropzone.com please post and I will move it over.

There was a plane brought in to Korea, I believe. We maybe not brought in but Seoul Skydivers currently have a 206 flying down in Namwon. It's still around 70,000 won per jump, not sure how. They are also jumping in Misari near Seoul. Myself and two other are going to give it a go October 2nd/3rd weekend. This was discussed as recent as today. This is the next time they are jumping because of Chuseok.

There is a big market for foreign tandem jumpers, however, no one can seem to jump because they can't read the Korean skydiving website and they can't call because they don't speak Korean.

http://www.skydivingschool.co.kr/

I would also imagine there is a big market for Korean tandem jumpers. We just have to reach them. We're talking 24 MILLION people in the Greater Seoul Area.

We should get together and have a beer. I'm in Seoul on Line 2 and Seoul National University, (not "of Education"). I have another friend here in seoul and one down in the Busan area, both jumpers.

What do you think?

P.S. I am still looking for any BASE jumpers in Seoul. If you know of any please let me know.

I will look for it in "places to jump". I have about 100 jumps right now and live about and hour south of Seoul.

Re: [enrichmylife] Korean BASE Community
Hi Enrichie,

I'm up for just about anything that gets us in the sky on a regular basis. The 206 sounds better and more regular than the Helo jumps at Won 100,000 near Seoul.

As for tandems, it would have to be through one of the Korean clubs (preferably the 206). Starting any kind of foreigner run DZ won't work in Korea for mostly cultural reasons. I had rather work with the Korean club than compete.

Unfortunately, I have no ratings at all. Just 1300+ jumps. However, my wife is Korean and I'm a permanent resident. I'm willing to be the liason or point of contact to help get something rolling.

I doubt there are more than 2 or 3 Korean tandem masters here. But they do have to speak some English or some other language to get their rating.

As for moving it over to DZ.com, we would pick up a lot more foreign jumpers in Korea over there. On the other hand, we do have some BASE jumps and we are in the General thread.

Hey MOD! Can we stay here for a while? Smile Plz?

Re: [enrichmylife] Korean BASE Community
youtube skydive south korea.... my friend, the people who say there is no skydiving here are probably to lazy to look, we jump in Namwon, and Misari, there is no DZ! its a small group of KPA members who are affiliated with the USPA and rent helicopters on any given weekend when enough people plan to attend, they treat it as a school instead of a business, does it cost more? well yeah because we split the costs of everything, but to me 65 bucks is worth not being able to jump at all, ive been here for two years and these guys love the blueskies like everywhere else ive ever been, and we like to get out and hike to many 300ft+ objects, my friends I tell you my email is ams_blueskies@yahoo.com, add me on facebook and Ill tell you all you need to know about jumping in Korea! the hardest part is the language but i think we all speak the same "Human Flight" peace and blueskies

Re: [enrichmylife] Korean BASE Community
I disagree, all you have to do is speak Korean and know who to call.... but I must say, there are endless possibilities at 300+ ft and Ive done more BASE here in one year then I have in the last ten..... its cheaper, LOL my email is ams_blueskies@yahoo.com, add me on facebook and I can help future translations with the KPA guys, but seriously they think Im crazy when I invite them on a BASE

Re: [smurfmws] Korean BASE Community
dont give up, give me a call 010-4964-4449, were jumping in misari every weekend of October, we have a small group of people and would love to see new faces.... add me on facebook ams_blueskies@yahoo.com> You can join me on my next hike (BASE) endevour, when we cancel skydiving cause of weather I just grab my mojo and the first 300+ ft I can find

Re: [zoobrothertom] Korean BASE Community
Jay Stokes was here last month and all of our instructors have USPA ratings.... they treat skydiving as a school and not a business, you are absolutely correct in saying work with them knowing the Korean laws, half these guys are retired ROK special forces and pull alot of strings for LZ's, as for a DZ, well, there isnt one! LMAO, I have started a group page on facebook to assist the "non koreans" with contact information, I perhaps am the bridge that will unite korea with BASE and USPA members before I leave here next summer, its the least I can do for the sky gods, peace and blueskies (ams_blueskies@yahoo.com) facebook and email

Re: [aaron.smith42] Korean BASE Community
Hey Aaron,

Is there any jumping scheduled for spring time that isn't around Seoul?

The travel time kills me. I'm in Pohang about 1 hour north of Busan on the east coast. By the time I could get one (read "one") jump it'll cost me W300,000 ($270) if you add in all travel expenses to show up, buy beer and food and stay over night.

Oh hell, my reserve is also out of date. Shit, add another W100,000. Frown

Re: [zoobrothertom] Korean BASE Community
yes we have worked the ground in Namwon last season and it is within an hour from Busan.... plus we get up to 10,000 ft which is not too bad for all the restrictions....if your a licensed jumper its 70 dollars per helicopter jump but rumor we will have a fixed wing porter this year.... Ill get your rig squared away if its out of date, which I dont see much more than 50 bucks to take care of thatt.... my korean number is 010-4964-4449 or email me at ams_blueskies@yahoo.com.... hope to see ya some time..... peace and blueskies

I have a student arriving from Korea next week. I'm not sure how long you will be there, but I will see if he has any local contacts. My research found no active jumpers there when I was background checking him, though.
