Direct control method
There is a method of direct control used by some jumpers(I haven't tried yet).
Here is the link:
http://www.blincmagazine.com/.../direct-control-164/
I was told that this method could be used instead of tapes..
How does affect the openings this method? softer/harder?
Is it really safer than others?

Re: [juanitos] Direct control method
Interesting, so basically the rubber band goes from the inside C line then aft of all the 'red' lines, then back into the pack job and wrapped around the slider as usual.

Hum.....

Re: [juanitos] Direct control method
Hey, those are from a post of mine about direct control and Mick asked if I was happy to make it an article. I threw them on there to get a bit of feed back on what other jumpers though because I wasn't super experienced slider up at that stage (and still only marginally more now), but never heard much back.

The majority of my experience using that method is about 20 jumps in the 640-900' range. I also did a few jumps with that at LB but got sick of replacing the rubber band and ended up jumping with no tailgate or control of the slider apart from the primary stow.

On the sub terminal jumps, I never had any scary moments using this method. Heading always seemed good and inflation never felt like it was snivelling. If you try that setup while you're packing and try pull the red lines apart, you'll see it doesn't need much force to release the slider.

Hope that sheds a little bit of light on it and I'm still keen to hear what more experienced slider up jumpers think about it.

As a bit of a side issue, does anyone know (or at least have an opinion on) whether line overs on a slider up jump more likely at higher or lower airpseeds?

Cheers
