Apparently the last fix on the avatars was only a fix for some, while others continued to experience troubles...

We've now completely changed our approach on how the avatars work and we're using a much simpler and more effective method of avatars.

You can now upload an avatar without having to have the image approved first, so it becomes instantly updated.

Here is how to do it:

Step 1. Click on 'My Profile' on the left of your screen, under the 'my stuff' tab.

Step 2. Click on 'Upload a Profile Picture' at the top left. Or if you already have a profile picture in use, click 'edit picture'.

This will take you to a photo uploader where you will be able to upload any image smaller than 1mb and with a resolution smaller than 2000x2000 pixels.

Step 3. Once the photo is uploaded you will be able to select the image below, and then click 'Select Profile Picture'.... This will make it your default profile picture and avatar.

And that's it.

There really should be no need to even read these steps, it's that simple. Just head to your profile page and you should have it.

I now get an error message when playing with this feature. it says
Error: Wrong argument passed to this subroutine. update called with nothing to set!

any ideas?

There does seem to be an error that's cropped up, I've contacted the host support and hopefully it'll be resolved quickly.
