motel 6 and the shilo inn are some of the cheaper ones close to the bridge...also, the Shilo lets you pack in their conference rooms, which is nice in 90+ degree heat.

ill be there for labor day. broke as fuck, got enough gas money to get there and back to pdx. brinin a tent and sleeping bag. is it cool to camp out down somewhere in the gorge, like around where you can get a car ride out? or are there any camping grounds that are free in the surrounding area?

Also, ask the shilo about their BASE jumper discount.

It's technically illegal to camp in the gorge, but jumpers have been doing it for a while. As long as it's low key (no fires, no parties, that kind of stuff) it hasn't created any problems in the past.

Also, Motel 6 has a weekly rate if you're here that long. It's walking distance to the bridge and the weekly rate works out to less than 40 bucks a night.

Instead of creating a new thread, since it looks like aòbout once a year this pops up, is there anything new regarding lodging or camping?

Clean up after yourself. We were at the Shilo, and they locked us out of the conference room because a group of BASE jumpers made a mess and left it like that. Most recently, they mentioned they do not want chutes packed in the hall-way. A little politeness goes a long way. We offered to vacuum the conference room after we packed, and they gave us a vacuum and unlocked the door. Cleaning up after our-selves at any of the local motels, the visitor center packing area, and being low-key about camping in the gorge, etc. will go a long way to keeping the vibe positive towards BASE jumpers.Smile

As of today, $345/wk for 2 adults including tax at Motel 6. Outside entrances so you can park by your door. Shilo is very nice but costs 490 plus tax for a week. KOA is 210/wk, but may be cheaper if you talk Then down. It was too close for us to try since we have been in a tent for 7 weeks. WiFi is $3/day extra at Motel 6.

We will be staying at what was the Comfort Inn, which became the AmericInn and is now the Twin Falls Quality Hotel, for $74.52 per night ($521 per week) including tax. Comes with breakfast, closest to the bridge. September and October. Looks nice and my wife is "on holiday"... Cool

FWIW
Last week me and a student spent 5 days
4 nights in Twin, stayed at the Shilo, used
the conference room to pack, cleaned up
after we were done, there was free wifi,
free breakfast, free coffee and water all
day long, and the joint is pretty close to
the bridge... Luckily we paid for it using
the kid's credit card reward points.

Last year for Memorial I stayed at the
AmericInn and it sucked, the keys kept
fucking up, the food was medium, and
the rooms were standard... hopefully
the new management learned how to
make the key open a room twice!!

We stayed at the Super 8 in '06 & '08
and found it to be nice and affordable.

I stayed at AmericInn this past spring, it was decent. It wasn't the ritz, but it was the cheapest in town at the time, and good location, really nice staff, no issues on a short trip.

Quality inn is close and fairly comfortable. No issues with you packing in hallway or outside in grass. $69/night if you advise them you are a base jumper.

After being in TF for almost a week, I highly recommend Motel 6 if you are staying a full week. Rooms are small, but big enough for two and lots of gear. The place is clean and there is a nice grass packing area that is well lit at night. Including tax the weekly rate of 344.50 for two is pretty cheap, and you are quite close to the bridge. Good size refrigerators and freezers if you request them, as well as microwaves are available. The staff is very helpful. The 3$ a day internet charge is my only complaint, but I am jumping all the time, so it isn't that big of a deal.

I've got a crush on the awkward mannered librarian looking receptionist at the Shilo. I bet she too is a fan of the Big Bang Theory on CBS.
