Hit the wall in freefall or after the canopy opened?

It seems like it would be real hard to hit YO in freefall.

EDIT: Sorry, just read a translation of the whole article. "...died in the hospital." Had to have been under canopy.

This is second hand information that I got from one of the guys on the load. He said it was multiple cliff strikes after an off heading opening.

This has been a horrible couple of months for BASE.

My condolences to those who knew him Frown

Re: [BASE_1007] Fatality - Lauterbrunnen 4. August 2010
Exactly the same happened to me on Yellow Ocean a few years back, except I escaped with only bruises and mild shock (I was only in the Interlaken hospital for about 4 or 5 hours before being discharged). Opened with a 180 and multiple line twists that were way beyond reach; slider was above the twists.

I had a vented canopy (Troll 265 MDV) and was wearing knee and elbow protectors, as well as a full-face paragliding helmet. I almost certainly would not have survived if I was using an unvented canopy.

It would be interesting to get as much info as possible to compare my incident with this one as they appear very similar at first glance, but have led to completely different outcomes.

My condolences to the jumper's family.

Re: [Dman] Fatality - Lauterbrunnen 4. August 2010
sometimes people are hesitant to release names until family are notified.

if you say your friend's first name is "BillyJack," you might get a quick no, without any need to divulge the name.

it's a part of fatalities that really sucks.
