raven bridal attachment point
What does the commmunity think of the original bridal attachment point on an old 1985 raven 3....sturdy for base and the high tension on the center cell and attachment point or do most people take it to a rigger and have it reinforced somehow?

Canopy has barely any jumps...or any since its in fantastic shape.

Thx

it will work for a few jumps, but you would want to inspect it after every jump. I would reinforce it if I wanted to get any kind of longevity out of the canopy.

Also are there any other common problems with an old school 1985 raven 3?

The purpose is low slider down into water

Cheers

Re: [lowcountryBase] raven bridal attachment point
Vid is correct....keep an eye out for it after every jump. It wouldnt hurt to hollah at a rigger to beef it up a lil. Newer Raven 4's and Super Raven 4's came with reinforced attachment points.

Mine flies like a champ, just a lil steeper angle of attack but im loading it!!! They are on heading machines. But watch out, you will be scolded for jumping something not "Base specific" haha. Happy trails!

It should be fine for that.

Their have been some reports of snivels on slider up (when compared to modern BASE canopies), but slider down that's not an issue.

How low is your jump?

It will be GTG. Only thing you need to look after is when you do ' Static or PC assist' .
.
edit to add:
Also make sure you got reinforcement tape in the tail seam. That the break-line cascades tag into . some old ravens were lacking in the tape .

Re: [RayLosli] raven bridal attachment point
Cool, thanks! Most likely that is the case so Ill check it after and see the effects.

Perhaps there is no reinforcement tapes, what do you think is the consequence..blowing out the steering lines from the tail..or worse?

Re: [lowcountryBase] raven bridal attachment point
You can tell by looking. Tape is folded on the inside Tail-seam roll . Some of the older ones that did not have it as it was 'not that necessary' structurally for slider-up skydive openings. But over short time and with your Hard No-slider BASE openings it will start to tear the Tail.top-skin, where the (Break-line Cascade Connections tabs) . It's Easy Fix if not taped in the seam roll . Just take some 1-inch grosgrain nylon tape and sew it on/over tail-seam to reinforce with the cascade tab connections .
-also- If you see tearing, it is also cool to just sew strait-through the Top Skin & Bottom Skin @ the end of the Tail where the Seam is also . I have done a lot of simple repairs on older Canopies like this & Also Pointers Manual states that it also. It will not hamper the structure, inflation or performance . Good and easy for BASE tail pockets and repairs where you don't want to spend a lot of money & time on a old Tarps that is not worth much for re-sale . No Need to pick-out all the sewing/stitching and split the Skins & Ribbing for repair as it is real time consuming ,
Actually Ravens will take a beating and keep on flying. I seen a couple steer, flair and land uneventfully with Major cell damage . They are pretty tough.
