The Movie: INCEPTION
Saw it last night and wow what a trip.
I highly recommend seeing it on the
biggest screen you possibly can.

Re: [GreenMachine] The Movie: INCEPTION
I've seen it 3 times so far and thought it was absolutely phenomenal. easily the best movie this year, i hope they get some awards for it. finally some new ideas on screen. something that wasn't a remake. I thought some of the shots were really cool if you pay close enough attention. In the first layer when Eames is sitting in front of the vanity mirror before he goes in to try to convince fischer to give up the safe combination, his reflection is actually of browning (the one he's impersonating). I was just impressed with the details that were included. I agree with you tom, see it on the biggest screen you can.

Go See "INCEPTION"
The wife & I talked about all of the good movies
that this film related to and the list was long:

Pi
21
Trip Box
The Cell
Fight Club
The Matrix
Brainstorm
West World
Dreamscape
Waking Life
The Truman Show
Being John Malkovich
What Dreams Make Come
Sunshine of the spotless mind

Not to ruin it for anyone but a good deal of the
film takes place in various dream worlds and as
such lends itself to fun visuals, time manipulation,
and cool mental ideas about the subconscious mind.

If you fly head down, jump off of bridges & buildings,
like to fight, ever thought of offing yourself, and know
you could join Mensa then this film is a total must see!

i agree. the movie was amazing, it was a total trip, and for those that havent seen it dont even get up to take a piss, because you need to follow all the details. if you need to bring in a water bottle as a toilet, do so.

Has anyone here looked into lucid dreaming at all.

Its when you are dreaming and conciously recognize that you are in a dream. There are apparently ways to do this 'in dream'. one is wearing a digital watch bc the time wont change on it.

Re: [ruetama] Go See "INCEPTION"
Yes, with limited success.
When it works it is fun!

As for your watch idea,
never heard of that, nor
do I think it would work.

Not that I was looking into it, but I have experienced it. It's very hard to maintain that state, because you usually go like "wow, I'm dreaming and I can control it!" and that excitement wakes you up. Haven't had a lucid dream longer than just several seconds. But it seems that in most of my dreams I'm controlling them anyway, just without realizing that I'm dreaming... and I usually end up flying in them. Smile

Re: [Smilediver] Go See "INCEPTION"
a lot of mine where i realize im dreaming tend to be where I jump (up from the ground) and just take off really high like theres no gravity, but it really is just a jump, not flying. Then after peaking I start to fall back down and wake up.

Re: [GreenMachine] The Movie: INCEPTION
incidentally, I slept during the movie. May be I was trying to partake in the plot in my dreams. Laugh

loved the concept and the shit about multi-level dreams.

Visually I just loved the moment when that teenage looking girl and Leo simply walk from one plane to another while strolling in the city. totally awesome!

"inception" is cool but I personally enjoy the movies of the "Shutter Island" genre. Movies that deal with the ACTUAL behavior of a person. His intimate psychology and its influence on his behavior. Totally fascinating . whoa!! what a ...what a movie!!

* Perform reality checks every waking hour - get a digital watch that beeps on the hour, and when it does, try to perform a little impossible action. My favorite one is to try to push my hand through the nearest wall. You can also look at a clock (numbers are regularly distorted in dreams) or look closely at the palms of your hands. At the same time, ask yourself "Am I dreaming?" Soon enough, you will perform a reality check on autopilot inside a dream - and the impossible will happen! Your hand will sink through the wall, the clock will make no sense, or your palms will appear in extraordinarily high definition. This reality check will - about 95% of the time - trigger instant lucidity! (Hearing your digital watch beep in your sleep may also trigger a reality check - so keep it close by at night!)

among other suggestions on the subject.

I've experienced it a few times. The last time was a couple weeks ago at the Turkey boogie. We were camping at Dirty Devil and it was 3 degrees with 30mph wind. I just kept telling myself if i could fall asleep i would stop feeling cold. Next thing I know I was dreaming and I was aware of it. My thought process was "Wait a second...this is a dream. That means I finally fell asleep and I'm not cold anymore! Yes!"

Unfortunately I woke up shortly after this realization.

Re: [FreeFallFiend] Go See "INCEPTION"
A friend of mine has been working on it - apparently one of the ways to train yourself to be able is to keep a notebook by your bed, and immediately write down every possible detail about a dream as soon as you wake - does something to help your mind remember dreams, and become more conscious when in the dream state - i think my friend does it because he hates his life, is married, having a kid and his wife's an agorophobic psychic.

Re: [kcollier] Go See "INCEPTION"
yea read about the notebook technique too.
havent gotten into trying any of this stuff I just thought it was interesting.

On a digital watch note anyone have a suunto Core?
if so would you recommend for/against?

Hey Green,

You need to see the following movies:
Dark City
City of Lost Children (french)
Pan's Labyrinth (spanish?)

You will trip right the fuck out.

All 3 are great movies!

Re: [ruetama] Go See "INCEPTION"
correct, reality checks are the best way - after doing them regularly whilst awake it becomes routine to do them in your dreams too. if you set a beep on your watch for each hour read the time twice too - in a dream it will normally change loads between readings. turning on lights is the method I found the most successful - light switches rarely work during a dream (seriously)! It takes a lot of patience to get to a point where you can maintain lucidity for a decent amount of time but it is super cool when you can.

i usually go flying when lucid Cool

Re: [ukjonr] Go See "INCEPTION"
became lucid in a dream friday night while jumping and dodging bullets. Only remained that way for a couple minutes i think bc i didnt wake up and didnt maintain awareness for rest of dream.

Also have noticed for me the triggers on guns are alway hard pulls and the gun doesnt always work in my dreams. But even when it does work the trigger is always hard to pull (physically)

Re: [ruetama] Go See "INCEPTION"
ive had recurring dreams about fist fighting since i was a kid - in every one, i cannot throw a f'n punch - no matter how hard i try, in my dreams, i punch in slomo, and it has no effect.

also, sometimes i dream im under water, and if i try realy hard, i can just breath water - there is always a moment in my dream when i think im going to drown, then i let go mentally and can breathe the water.

also, i think i became lucid in a dream last week - i found some kind of portal to a magical valley with steep grass hills, and i was able to launch and fly just above the ground from wherever i wanted. it was like all i had to do was jump, and the slope in front of / beneath me fell away just enough that i could track above it - also, was able to fly backwards and skim my feet across a pond. then some locals got pissed and threw me out.

my dream is where I go in, get up, dust myself off, and announce that I'm a terrible jumper.

Re: [460] Go See "INCEPTION"
Has anyone ever tried to interpret their dreams? Had started reading "Interpretation of Dreams" by Sigmund Freud ....one of my favorites....years back and found it pretty fascinating. Don't exactly remember many of the psychoanalytic stuff he talked about. Still have that book somewhere, should dig it out and start again.

Though his concept of 'interpretation' was a bit different, I found it very easy to interpret this friend's dream he mentioned......

he was walking around in the woods and found a coin ...he picked it up....and then saw another...picked it up...and then another another.... and he kept walking and walking picking coins. He was too absorbed in getting more money. And then after sometime he realizes that he has been besieged by deadly snakes from all sides.....and he is scared.
