40ft drop testing my pack job
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAO_LPYDKuo

I got an old 7 cell to jack around with, and practice packing. Here is a short video of us testing it from 40 feet. I was using a gear bag with sand in it for weight, and a d-bag I made myself. It opened with a 90 left, but im sure it was due to the fact that we in no way attempted to throw the load in any particular order, the lines were twisted and I made no effort to orientate the bag, just held it by the bridle. It was good PCA practice. Next week we are actually gonna put some effort into getting on headings, we were just supprised that it inflated and pressurized before the weight hit and unloaded the suspension lines. And no we are not thinking of jumping at 40 feet, or and height with this canopy.

Anyone got any critiques, or a website that shows how to pack? I pro packed without rolling tail, split 3 nose cells left, 3 right, laid it down, redressed it, flaked tail, folded the 2 folds in towards the center on each side, then s-folded into my home made dbag

He never said anything about wanting to jump.

I think it is pretty cool you have the motivation to start testing setups on your own.

Check out this video for packing:

You guys are brutal read the end of my post I'm not jumping and no one is ever gonna jump this old canopy. I was just fucking around at work trying out my packjobs as I learn to pack. I used the manual off the net for the trango canopy but just left the parts out about the slider.

That's right just messing around. I have done ground crew and was in the process of being mentored but he quit his job and could no longer travel to do it. Next year I'm going to attend a course at twin falls

You left out the slider, have you added a tailgate?

Also, looks like a bit of a laugh, but what exactly is it you're 'testing'?

It's pretty hard to determine what he was testing but after close study it appeared he was testing to see if the parachute would open.

Good stuff Anvilbrother.

No tailgate, no line control at all. I dont have rig to pack it into, so I sewed up a regular dbag with gromets, and tape for the rubber bands to hold line stows.

We have a 40 foot burn building for firefighting training to launch things off off. We also have a 109' Ladder truck, but I dont believe the tax payers would approve of us using that as a test platform :)

Like I said I have an old 7 cell accuracy canopy with the bottom inflation squares on the bottom skin, a 48" pc, and I made the rest of the setup.

I first just wanted to see if my packjob would open square and start pressurizing at such a low height. Next week when we get a chance we are going to do some unpackd (tard?) tests, and mess around with differet ways to manage the nose and tail when I pack and sfold it into the bag. I might even build a container so I can pack it the real way a base canopy woud be instead of squashed into a dbag.

I love the gear aspect of BASE, im anal when it comes to packing skydiving gear, it takes me a good 45 min to pack my 370sqft main because I like everything to look like a reserve pack job, all lines straight and ontop of each other, all the top skin seams pulled taught, no wrinklesLaugh

If anyone has an old velcro rig the would like to donate to the cause we would be more than happy to pay for shipping, even if its not airworthy, as long as it will hold a canopy and we can attach some weight to itSmile

Sure, but in real terms that doesn't really tell you anything about the packjob except that you haven't sewn the D-bag shut.

In real terms, deploying any slider down pack job seldom tells you anything about the pack job

His imagination. Which is what got BASE started in the first place.

It's at the top if my first post. Update for those that care I repacked tonight using the propack dress up and sausage on floor medthod and instead of s folding like normal skydiving where the first fold gets put in the middle I stacked all the folds on top of the nose. I'm gonna try throwing the pc up from the exit point right before all the bridle plays out of my hand. Video will be done from a gopro this time instead of an iPhone
