New to all in the world of Base
Hi All,

I have been thinking about BASE jumping for AGES now and thought I'd give free fall a punt and loved it, I now want to get in to BASE

Are there any courses (FJC) in England or anybody looking to mentor?

I am going to be booking myself on to the advanced free fall skydive course as well :D

Thanks in advance and I think I'm a little over excited to be here LOL

Think you'll have a hard time finding anyone who will take on mentoring you without a handful of skydiving experience, let alone an FJC..

Though you could find a person who would take you ground crewing and teach you all kinds of basics on the ground..

When you start your skydiving course and after (if) you finish it, you will have shit loads of stuff going on then to even think about BASE anyways..

Have fun and good luck Smile

Hi there

the first thing to concentrate on is learning to skydive so you can start to build your canopy and packing skills.

The first 200 or so jumps are going to take a reasonable amount of time (especially with the UK weather).

Plus the AFF course is going to cost you £1500 then you are likely to need your own equipment to carry on skydiving followed by at least another 180 jumps MINIMUM if you want to be taken seriously.

All in all you are looking at £5000 worth of jumps plus equipment (somewhere between £2000 - £5000) add on the cost of petrol to the DZ, food and a whole lot of beer etc and you are going to be on the thick end of £10 000 plus plenty of time ...

Then add on the time and effort to get some BASE gear and either a FJC or someone to mentor you and you could be into £12000+.

If you think this is expensive or difficult - you haven't even scratched the surface of the true costs - which will be injuries (minor / major) or even DEATH (and if not you then potentially one of your closest friends) ...

Anyone who is going to rush to mentor someone who is completely unprepared and 'thought they'd give free fall a punt' and now 'wants to get into BASE' before you've even booked your AFF or RAPS course is not going to be someone that you are going to want to trust your life to.

If you are serious i would strongly suggest doing your skydiving course, gather as much info as you can from all sources, learn to jump large 7 cell canopies and expect to spend a couple of years minimum getting some experience ...

THEN look for a mentor ...

LOL I caught the program based on my facination with the sport, I wanted to do it years ago but never had the chance and as my parents put it at the time

"I grew out of the idea"

But I did a 13.5K ft free fall last year and it's sparked the desire to jump again hence why I'm off to do the AFF Courses :D

Yeah I'm in a similar position. Where you you planning on doing your AFF? I was quite tempted to save and just do a one week intensive course.

Re: [Nerra] New to all in the world of Base
the thought of a real intensive course, start to finish type course had crossed my mind but I'll do the AFF first and see how I get on and then do the uber intensive course based on that.

I'll be doing my AFF in Cambridge mateCool

Re: [Stealth69] New to all in the world of Base
Sorry I meant an intensive AFF course. You can either do it over a series of weeks (the 8 levels) or you can do your AFF course in a week long intensive course.

I won't be thinking about BASE until I have at least 150-200 sky dives and even then I'll have to seriously evaluate things. I'd like to say I would only do it a few times and then retire but the more I read into it the more I realise that its probably akin to saying you'll you only try heroin a couple of times.

Re: [Nerra] New to all in the world of Base
Yeah sorry, didn't explain myself LOL I was thinking about the real intense course (1-8) but decided to do just level 1 first and see how I get on before commiting all my time and money LOL

Nah I won't do BASE for a while based on what people have been saying on here and the thought of doing 1 or 2 BASE jumps does some somewhat optomisitic.... Adrenaline is a Great Drug and if BASE gives you the fix then you will jump way more than once or twice LOL

BASE = Legal Heroin LOL

Heroin= Horse, Smack, China White, Charlie

Marijuana= Grass, Pot, Weed, Herb,

Its Code

So when someone says the sentence, "The horse is out running in the grass" , it literally means,

"The heroin is out running in the marijuana"...........
