Re: [sabre210] the men who jump off buildings
I know Ian, and I love his posts, and I also love his approach to life and BASE, his approach and jumping is what BASE is all about to me... (and this isnt kissing arse/ass, its what I tell him as a friend)
He (as many times before) says so clearly what I want to say, but I dont have the word skill to say it.
I had no doubt before seeing this documentary that it would be a decent reflection of the sport, because Ian was involved. I dont know Dan very well, but have met him a few times and made a jump with him, and feel that the film showed him well.
Yes the film gave increased traffic on here with stupid questions, and on BJO with new users. I think the film more so than the last one that was shown in the UK (Seconds to impact) actually shows that BASE is complex and hard work with consequences.
I understand why people would want to BASE after the Seconds to Impact film, I was a newbie skydiver at the time and I had an interest in BASE (before it was well known on youtube and Dropzones) and the film I saw made me want it more... If Dan and Ians film was shown whilst I was in the same place I am not so sure... I am not sure how that transfers over to skydivers who have watched wingsuit proxy on video and see it, as its a different beast that now wants to BASE... and it is a very dangerous beast that I feel we are about to see.
IMHO, The documentary did nothing to hurt UK BASE (I have had emails from people saying "site naming!!" etc), but they are from people that do not understand what Ian and Dan do, and the objects they have done.
Again, hats off gents.....
