heat damage
I remember reading on hear and somewhere else that heat can damage nylon, specifically the canopy. Does anyone know how hot it has to be to affect f-111? I sometimes store my rig in the trunk of my car while I'm at work, and it gets up to around 100f during the heat of the day. Could this shorten the life of my canopy or worse lead to a structural failure?

Re: [hikeat] heat damage
Fabric tests have been conducted by basically baking the canopy to at least 250 degrees. Heat has not been found to be a major impacting factor up to the temperatures found in your car on a hot day. However, I would worry more about UV damage. The sun's rays will degrade the fabric a lot faster.

Found this after a quick google search which might help you make up your mind. It's even in bloody imperial units Tongue

Anyone know if F111 is treated or is it the actual weave that determines its porosity? Heat may still affect this if it is.

F111 is "callendered" It is rolled between heated rollers. It smushes out the fibers and fills in the holes. No increase in weight un like coatings. It stabalizes it to some degree. That changes it's failure. ZP the fibers can move and shift a lot more then in F111. F111 tends to tear more where zp will strain. Affects the mode of seam failure. Haveing said that F111 actually has a higher tensal strength. I think the reduice the thread count in zp so it wont be too heavy.

Re: [tfo11] heat damage
Thanks for the response. I am careful to keep it out of the sun as much as possible. If I'm not packing it or wearing my rig, it is in my stash bag, and my stash bag is generally kept out of the light as well.
