Phantom 2 question
For any experienced Phantom 2 pilots: When dry pulling my p/c I keep getting a handful of wing caught in my hand when reaching for the p/c. Admittedly it's on the ground and not in flight. I can rectify this by reaching for the middle of my boc and then moving my hand outwards to the p/c. Any comments or suggestions to avoid this issue? For the record I have about 130 jumps on GTi or Prodigy suits and hope to jump new suit next month. Thanks

Re: [neiljarvis] Phantom 2 question
Hey mate,

Funny you should post that because I've had exactly the same experience on my Phantom 2. I've been jumping it in Norway the past few weeks and almost every pull has been as you describe. I have put it down to the grippers, not so much the wing, getting in the way. On my previous V1 when I released the gripper and went for the pull, the gripper would blow clear and did not interfere (granted, I was using the leg pouch). On the Phantom 2 the sensation was basically not knowing if I had grabbed gripper or handle. On the ground it is noticeable but doesn't seem a big deal, but in flight it just sucks. The best remedy I have found is to not drop the gripper when I go in for the pull, which is counter-intuitive but doing so keeps it in my hand and lessens its interference.

I have also tried several other techniques, like the one you described, as well as dragging my hand up my leg and then to the BOC. In my opinion, none of these are ideal. It seems most people don't have this problem and PF says the leg pouch is unnecessary on the Phantom 2...and I suspect for most it probably is.

I will be getting the leg pouch put on when I get home and pretty much won't jump the suit again until I do. Or maybe I'll buy a V3 :)

Do more wet pulling and see if that fixes it... dry pulling is overrated. Laugh

Re: [neiljarvis] Phantom 2 question
do u have small hands??

ive got jumps on P1, p2 and p2 zip and V1 and V2 and others outside the PF family. im PUlling from the BOC by the way on all the wigsuits

no problems at all.

The material/arm wing just blows back... so im wondering? it's not that big a wing. never had this prob on V1/V2 either.

are u not current??? if this is the case, the problems just in your head?? just do a bunch a skyjumps and youll be OK!!! i promise!!!
, never jumped with a leg pouch myself...but im open to it.

Re: Phantom 2 question
So does anyone out there have a PC pouch on a phantom? Is it worth getting one for either ease of pitching in this suit or for developing the same habits you'd use later on with a bigger suit?

After 100 odd jumps on my GTI, I'm finally getting myself organised to upgrade to a phantom (mainly with base in mind) so I'm keen to hear what people think.

Re: [runnit] Phantom 2 question
I have the basepouch on a Phantom 1.
Main reason for that option was a weak right arm at that time – the pull from the basepouch was a lot easier for me than from the BOC,
secondly I wanted to have the same procedure on the Phantom as on the Vampire.

I wouldn´t go for the option anymore,
- the pull from the BOC is not a problem,
- you have to adapt your procedure from tracking jump to wingsuit jump anyway,
- in a plane the exposed bridle is a potential snag point.

IMHO the pull should be made in two stages let loose of the grippers - so they blow out of the way - then move backwards - too fast a move and you even can grip fabric on a Prodigy.
