BASE jumping receives "non regulated" status in Finland
Hi All, I would like to share with you some very good news we received last week in Finland. In Finland for last 25 years BASE jumping has been treated as "illegal skydiving" so that there has been an aviation regulation that states that "parachuting is only allowed from aircrafts". When Finnish BASE Association was formed about 8 years ago one of the major goals set to the association was to change that regulation. I personally started to work on that project by discussing with the authorities about 4 years ago and with the support from the whole (small but active) BASE scene in Finland last week we achieved our target. As the new OPSM6-1 regulation (which regulates sport parachuting in Finland) was published last week it now defines that the regulation is only applicable in parachute jumps conducted out of aircrafts. Therefore BASE jumping is now longer regulated by that regulation and BASE is treated as non regulated sport. This achievement is obviously a big step for us as this gives us possibility to ask permissions to jump objects otherways not accessible, arrange events, do demo jumps, you name it and above all to jump without the fear of losing your skydiving / private pilot license.
Looking forwards on the first international finnish crane boogie, hopefully somewhere next year. :)
