Using Brake set loop slider up
Anyone have any opinions on using the little white loop on your risers to set you brakes when not using the line release mod ie slider up, I have heard of line overs loading up the brake line so much it was hard or not possible to pop the brakes or release the toggle I'm just wondering if setting the brakes with the loop would lessen the load on the toggle?? Also is there any negatives to setting brakes this way as ide prefer for simplicity to just use one method for setting brakes.

Are you talkin about the control line still routed thru the guide ring like a normal slider up jump?

If you have a line-over, which I assume this is what you are worried about, and not only just any old line over, but one that is going to be so bad, your toggle wont release, I dont thnk it matters how you stow your brakes. >HOOK KNIFE<

Re: [gauleyguide] Using Brake set loop slider up
if im changing the topic forgive me, but im curious as to:

why when you are jumping slider up, would you not put a wrap or two of painters tape around just your brake lines for that extra security blanket to prevent a line over?

also, if you are gonna be taking your slider on/off, you will have to remove the toggles anyways, so why would you want to only use one toggle stow method instead of using both the traditional LRT for SD and the toggle-through-the-cats-eye for slider up?

i hope that last part made sense

Because you don't want that tape to hang up and make you spiral all the way down to rocky talus (http://www.basejumper.com/...o=ASC;mh=25;#2893155). Buy a pair of WLO's, they will do the trick if needed.

slider up line-overs? they seem fairly rare. why not focus on a bigger issue?

I'm also not sure what benefit you'll get if you have a line-over and release the toggles. in Skydiving, you may have time. in BASE, you probably won't have much time.

ever hang out in the packing area of your local dz? at least one tandem manufacturer uses a similar toggle arrangement. you might have thousands of jumps worth of experience at your fingertips, from people you already know and trust...

He used white tape only around the brakes. Everyone knows you use blue tape around the brakes and the center C's. Tongue

I've used a 1/2 tan rubber band simply tied around the brakes and the center Cs when I lost my tailgait and didn't have another available. Anyone see any potential issues with this reefing method?

Anyone ever try using a single strand of E thread? It has a breaking point of 8lbs, 16lbs as a loop, and it's cheap.

They aren't common, but I know a couple of people that have had them - including me. All worked out fairly well in the end. All were not using a line reffing system at the time, all now use one.

I had line release toggles and successfully used then. Agreed you may not have time to use them, but they should be quicker than a hook knife, and certainly quicker to get your canopy back in action.
