wingsuit w/ armor
i did a search and came up with nothing, i plan on buying a WS here pretty soon, but normally when i base i wear armor...shin/knee, forearm/elbow, chest/back....i was wondering if i am going to have to sacrifice the armor with a wingsuit, or get more streamlined armor....also, was wondering fi i do get it sized to fit armor, will the WS fly just as well if i dont wear the armor or is there going to be to much space in the suit....thanks for whatever info you may give....

Re: [JBag] wingsuit w/ armor
I've worn Dainese armour under a wingsuit no problem. Talk to the manufacturer about whether to measure with armour or not, since their preference varies.

I'm always surprised to read messages that suggest that dropping armour for wingsuit BASE is an option. Whether or not to wear armour at all in BASE is a personal choice, but I've always worn armour not for the place I intend to land (which, with a wingsuit, might be far from the cliff in a grassy meadow, greeted by singing larks), but where I hope not to land (which, even with a wingsuit, might be in the rocks at the base of the cliff, buzzards circling). The idea of dropping the armour for efficiency or something feels to me like getting rid of the rig -- which, incidentally, will do a lot more to streamline your profile.

may be you should take the measurements with your armor on. however the areas where you put the armor on do not affect the measurements, except may be, chest and back. and since the nature of the fabric that covers your knees, and arms, i dont think it will really affect your gliding ratio/performance. never worn it though so just my assumption Wink

Hi, I don't know a single jumper who is jumping with an armor. In WS jumps, you usually can chose where to land. You don't need to land in tight spaces as you sometimes need to do on slider down jumps. Important are good shoes, that's where you most likely hurt yourself.
For me it is much more important to have full movement freedom and not get disturbed by an armour.

Maybe you should get your armor built into your wingsuit LOL. Or Harden up!

granted, I do not wingsuit, but a recent fatality involved slipping on exit. the subsequent launch did not go as planned either. a cliff strike ensued. it sounded like the unplanned exit failed to create separation.

if you can guarantee a solid exit, I can see little need for armor.

if you want to save weight for a long hike to the exit point, armor can feel like extra baggage.

if you want to be prepared for something going amiss, armor can seem reasonable.

each jumper gets to make their own call.

hmmm, my purpose is that i want to wear armor b/c of worst case scenario, i was just worried that if you measure a suit with the extra inch or so in all the armor places, the suit will be really floppy and non flyable, not worried about aerodynamics w/ and w/o armor lol. or weight, but i do
appreciate the responses.

I bet this guy wishes he was wearing some armor.

Suit will not be anything close to unflyable, just not as nice a fit without the armor on. Of course no armor is best for least drag but there are always trade offs and personal choices.

Tell the manufacturer what you are doing and let us know what your experience is so we all learn.

I have a full upper Velocity Gear set and it fits under my old v1 that was built normal sized (without measurements or consideration for armor). This particular upper body armor has shoulder pads which is the only issue in terms of fit. Elbow deforms wing but fits, forearm protection no problem on wing. Back of suits have spandex so they expand. Knee pads fit fine, shin guards no problem. ----> All depends on the build though. <---- Newer v3 with tighter tolerances is not so forgiving.

Next problem you will have if jumping in cold weather is no room for winter clothes!
