Profanities,
I don't care about it except when it affects the accessibility to basejumper.com or other sites. Going to an internet kiosk, I've been refused access before because of this. just thought that maybe the mods could clean it up, or at least consider what may be done.

I gather you think the problem is with the "Subject" information (i.e. thread title), not the body (content) of the individual posts?

keeping profanity out of the titles seems quite doable, at least going forward. I'm not sure how challenging it would be to cleanse all the threads...

any thoughts from anyone with a red name?


ps...

a quick search for the word "f_ck" in the subject yielded 4513 results. the first page did not have the word appear in any subject...

it makes changing all threads difficult. am I missing something?

An odd request...

While it is certainly do-able, it would require moderators to basically look for every thread title with a swear word and then manually edit the post to censor it.

I've also got a feeling this will piss off a lot of users, adding to the feeling of censorship.

I must say I'm rather shocked that an internet cafe actually cares about this? What are they doing looking at your screen in the first place... You should have privacy and I can't see how they can complain about profanity, especially in the pixel size that the threads are. I've read many news reports which quote such profanities.

The text size for the forum titles on the front page is extremely small too.

My first recommendation would be to punch whoever tries to kick you out of a web cafe for that in the face. It's not like you're browsing porn.

As mostly the case, others are welcome to give their opinion and see who agrees and disagrees. I like to take off my dictator hat for such situations and make it more of a democracy. Before pissing off 1000 people.

In Germany,
one needs a special permit to punch a kiosk browser.

The browser looks for key words and blocks access.

Germany sounds strict. What ever happened to freedom of violence.

Thinking practically though, if the browser seeks out flagged words and then denies access, would it not then block you from every thread with a swear word in, even if you get past the subject lines? (Namely every thread on BJ)

Can look into this for you- would like to give a few days for others to comment on their thoughts on this. Or else we have another Revolution of 2010 with BASE75.

I would prefer subject lines did not contain curse words however,
I sometimes use curse words inside threads and think we should
be able to continue this practice.

I do not think this a big deal, I have accessed BJ.com from
internet kiosks in several countries and never had a problem.
