A little friendly competition...
A little friendly competition…

Both Basejumper.com and Blincmagazine.com supporters claim their website is superior and that the other website can suckballs!

I’m undecided, so I need your help.

I am going to run a little competition between the two websites so the real winner can be crowned… at least for a brief moment in history!

Here are my thoughts…
For the next 7 days prove to me which website community is superior and deserves the title by donating to Marah’s movie Gravity. The movie will chronicle the life of Carl Boenish, the father of modern day BASE jumping, as well as the past, present and future of the sport. Everyone that participates in this unbelievable sport we call BASE jumping, owes it to Carl to donate at least $5 measly dollars for what he gave to the sport. This film will prove to be the definative BASE jumping movie that tells the true story of the roots of the sport. This movie may even help to break the stereotype of us as reckless, dangerous individuals with a death wish.

I, as well as many of the pioneers of BASE, support the movie whole heartily. Please show your support over the next 7 days by donating to reach the movie's first goal of $10,000. Remember that if the full $10,000 is not raised then the movie goes unfunded and an opportunity to bring this spectacular film into fruition may be lost.

In order for me to keep track of who donates and from what website please either post in this thread or send me a PM with your name and the amount you donated. At the end of the 7 days I will tally up the totals and present the winner. I will also try to give updates so everyone knows who’s in the lead.

You may be asking what the winning side gets… well the best award is getting to rub your superiority all in the face of the other guys Shocked plus you get the title of most supportive website community. In addition to that I have decided to donate 10% of the winning sides total to the movie in the name of that website. So, if the winning side raises $1500, I will donate $150 in the name of the winning side. ($100 minimum)

If you don’t know how much to donate then maybe try this simple equation.
J x .10 = D
Number of jumps you have done = J
Multiplied by $.10 or even $.05(jump fee paid in memory of Carl)
Donation = D
Example… you have 570 jumps so J=570.
570 x .10 = 57. Your suggested donation is $57 or if you po*
570 x .05 = 28.5 Your suggested donation is $28.50.

I will hold this competition open until 11:59pm Monday June 7, 2010 so get out there and put some money toward a great film that is long overdue!

Thanks,
Jason

Hello???

Ok we are two days into the competition and I have some totals for you.

Here they are:
1 - Blincmagazine.com - $125
2 - Aussie BASE forum - $75
3 - Basejumper.com - $5

It seems a rouge entity has entered the fray and looks to take the title. Maybe I should have posted this on there forum too!?!?!
I heard rumors of more joining in but that remains to be seen. If anyone wants to post this on other sites around the world that may have an interest, please do. It can be a worldwide battle royale...

Thanks for everyones support! Please tell your friends and neighbors WinkWink

What is wrong with you people?
C'mon guys, only $5 donated from basejumper.com readers??
I've just donated $15 and I haven't even started BASE yet, I'm still jumping out of stupid planes Smile
There isn't that much more to donate and it ends in a few days so dip into your pockets people, for the price of a cup of coffee and a sandwich we can help to get a kick-ass movie made and make history.
Base570, my vote is for basejumper.com, no doubt.
I posted the link to get more cash on my Facebook wall too.
Cheers.

Re: [base570] A little friendly competition...
Alright things are starting to heat up now!! We are over half way through the competition and we have a couple of more entrants into the match!

A few people have said that they didn't have a preference for either BJ or Blinc so I evenly split their donation between the two.

Also a few people have asked that I 'tentatively' place their donation in one category but leave them the option to change it at the end... I'm easy so I'll do that for them.

Let me says thank you to everyone who has participated thus far. Marah's film has successfully crossed the $10,000 barrier!!!!!!! I would love to claim it was because of me but it seems APEX BASE donated some last minute prizes which sparked some donating. Thanks Jimmy and Marta!!
That doesn't mean we are finished with this battle....It still needs to be decided. The more money that is raised the better since 10k is only the beginning of what is needed to get the movie to it's final stage. Keep donating and fighting it out!

Here are the standings...Like I said things are heating up!
1. $800 - Australian BASE Assoc.
2. $790 - SOB's (Society of Outlaw Basejumpers)
3. $450 - Blincmagazine.com
4. $65 - UK BASE Board
5. $45 - Basejumper.com

Just a little over 3 days left in this little competition so go donate if you want the order to change!

Less than 36 hours to go.... No change in donations.

Looks like the Australians are going to take the title unless we get more donations.

One last push to the finish line. Donate, donate, donate!

3. Blinc - $450

Re: [base570] A little friendly competition...
The final tally is in and there is a winner to be crowned......

The purpose of this competition was to motivate basejumpers to come together for a common goal. A goal, that when complete, will show who the real winners of this competition are... the true winners are all of us and everyone who sees this film.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this competition, remember that there are a few days left to donate if you missed out.

Ok, since most are wondering what group came out on top, here are the final standings...

1. $840 - Australian BASE Association
2. $790 - Society of Outlaw BASE Jumpers (SOB's)
3. $450 - Blincmagazine.com-
4. $65 - UK BASE forums
5. $45 - BaseJumper.com

So, Australia comes in and wins it! That's pretty impressive since I didn't even post this on their site. (I tried but the website says my email has been banned... strange)
Congrats Australia!!! I'll be donating $100 in you name. Thanks for participating.

Re: [base570] A little friendly competition...
Hey 570 thanks for all of the great spirit generated by the friendly competition but I also wanted to make sure wife Joy and Jean Boenish and the USBA got at least some honorable mention. We gave all of the money we collected for issuing and processing the BASE cards the last year, ($1159.00) to the effort 2 weeks before the competition actually started. I feel like Joy who does 95% of the work issuing the World BASE numbers should also be recognized along with all the new jumpers who sent in money last year for their numbers and cards. They are all part of the effort and we even got a new BASE application last week that said he was happy his money was going to help restore Carl's BASE films. We're going to keep making the money available for the film Gravity for awhile and hope we see it finsihed. Keep the spirit alive folks.

Awww Rick, I feel flattered that you are looking for my recognition Blush
I was just going by the rules. Otherwise I would have had to add a bunch more to all the totals. I was emailed and asked by a few people but I decided to keep it to new donations since that is what we were trying to stimulate.

You should know that EVERYONE, especially me, appreciates everything Jean has done and all the work you and Joy do for BASE and all that you are doing for the movie. Without any of you there would be no story to tell! Shit, I thought I told you how much I appreciated all that you do last year at our little 10 year reunion at Bridge day... it's a little fuzzy though. Who knows what I said!Angelic

Thank you Rick, Joy, Jean and everyone who helped make Marah's goal!

ps- just curious Rick, what is the first number you and Joy issued and what is the most recent one.
