something new, a real beginners story
Today, i had my sites set on a 500' A, middle of nowhere...satelite photos looked great, so i went for it. Went out there, found to my dismay thay A. it was an AM tower, and B. landing area sucked. Now, i'd planned on making THIS jump, had telephonic ground crew prepped with coordinates, emergency numbers, etc, but when i showed up, it was un-sat, so i moved to another A that i know of....a roughly 240' s/l, with one-direction landing area. Winds were 0-5, in the right direction. i could have easily climbed and jumped, but none of it was to plan. I didn't have coordinates, couldn't reach anyone by phone, and was alone. nobody knew where i was. So, as much as i hated to, i shouldered the gear bag and left, yes, feeling like a pussy. Just saying, maybe some of you other beginners can learn from my cowardice and emulate it. As sick as i feel for not making a jump tonight, i know that i made the smart choice. Its a good object, i didn't fuck up, (burn it or get broken to peices)and i can go back tomorrow.
Note to self and others: Plan the jump, and jump the plan. Too many variables change, and you need to come back at it another time.
