You can take a bus (easy to find) from the airport to the harbor in Stavanger comes every 1/2 hour- 1 hour. Pick up groceries before you get on ferry. A taxi is about 4 times more expensive (but can bring you right to the grocery store and to the ferry terminal for Lysebotn). I would only take the taxi if I had time constraints, like maybe missing the ferry or had someone to share the taxi with. As far as a drive to Lysebotn from Stavanger its a 2 hour drive one way. The price for the bus was about $15 US. Try to make the ferry the day you get into town to avoid the high cost of hotel in town. good luck.........

The Best Western Havly Hotel website is www.havly-hotell.no/english/index.htm. This is a decent place to stay if you need a hotel room for the night while in Stavanger before you catch the ferry into the Fjords to Kjerag

The COOP grocery store is located behind Cathedral Square at the street intersection of Hospitalsgata & Klubbgata

The Butchers meat market is located on the street named Verksgata near dock # 13

good luck

that was given to me by the instructor last year in kjerag..

if you get in and miss the ferry it is best to stay in stavanger and run around and get a weeks worth of shopping done (food) and then take the shopping trolley full of food on the ferry to the campground,as long as you are responsible for taking the shopping trolley back when you leave it wont be a problem..,

this is a cheaper hotel in stavanger

I took my camping gear with med. weight ski jacket, even in june/july the weather can change real fast, couple guy's(I think it was four) got stuck in fog in the trail waking around for 4+hr. going in circle without jacket really close to hypothermia (one was local), lucky they made it out.
you can stay a best western there at Stavanger the cheapest I think still, but if you are by yourself you can say at first floor of the airport they have nice bench chair, but there is no locker like all the airport now days, next morning you can take the bus from the airport to the ferry terminal. If you have one day in Stavanger before getting on the ferry you can stay at the bench in ferry terminal I think they don’t lock the door you need to ask the person there but they have a locker two size one big and medium size can hold lot of bags so you can walk around and shop but the bench is steel so you need a air/fome camping mat or something to sleep, around the terminal there is internet cafe, and sporting goods store, there was grocery store right outside the ferry terminal with good price item.
The Stavanger hostel has nice cabin for rent too. Most of the people speak good English so there is no problem of communicating
