That sounds much like the infamous BASE exit, the triple lindy, demonstrated here by Rodney Dangerfield.

OK...i am confused? Do you REALLY mean a PCA without a PC? Because I can't see the advantage to that.

Or do you mean a freefall assist where someone keeps the bridle clear but the PC does the work?

I have to say this is prob one of your first posts I dont agree with.

Really? It's a PC. We have to switch them out all the time for different jumps so this would be no more rigging than a normal jump. What kind of errors are you talking about? It's either there or it's not. It's not fucking rocket science. Leaving if off would be the only potential error i see.

In reply to:
- Once canopy is pulled out, less disortion on the canopy gives better landings and better inflation.

OK, I'll give you that one, but in most cases it doesnt matter. I mean i know accuracy is important but if you are jumping something low enough to need a PCA then you're not going to have a whole lot of wiggle room for accuracy anyway. If you get a PCA and have time to do more than a 90 to land then you didnt need the PCA in the first place and need to HTFU and freefall it.

In reply to:
- Great trust excersise with the one giving the bridle assist

Very true, but people do get dropped. I dont think either party would consider this a good exercise if they killed their friend.

In reply to:
- If the jump is below 100ft you are fucked if your assistant fucks it up. Removing PC visualizes this and by doing so you actually improve safety.

If the jump is sub 100 ft then both parties need to have their games faces on no matter what. If someone needs a reminder then they have no business doing it in the first place.

In reply to:
- Its one more extraction method for your logbook

True, but since when did you start caring about that?

In reply to:
Its a pretty advanced teqnique, most FJC dont teach bridle assist. Nor do they teach funny alternatives to static line (condoms, electric tape, plastic bags). Its a damn shame.

I wouldnt call it advanced. I would call it intentionally ignoring an important piece of technology.

I'm all for experimenting and fucking around...but use the proper tool for the proper job.

Lepka's Law isn't only about finding random posts to disagree with, you also have successfully belittle everyone else in the thread without actually calling them names.

That is true. I plan to disagree with lepka. The few times I've posted in disagreement, he would not acknowledge it. I'm so glad I learned to skydive by feel rather than theory. Wink

On topic: As far as bridle assist rather than PCA is concerned, no way, I'm too chicken to do that.

with only my bridle in the hands of a solid person

Re: [JBag] BAJ
Did it. Had my brother do my bridle assist off an 88ft E. He has never BASE jumped, and had never done a PCA before. There were 4 of us and I went first to show the others that I trusted him not to drop anyone.

Tom,

With a Direct Bag deployment you have neither Bridle or PC

(or have I missed the point of this thread perhaps)

Re: [John_Scher] BAJ
Good Morning John,

I think the OP's point was would you
trust your life to someone else to
NOT drop your bridle/bag/etc.

On most PCAs if your holder lets go
too soon usually you live, cause the
PC does its thing.

But if you only had a bridle and the
holder let go you would not get your
rig open before impact. You are right,
exact same case with a Direct Bag.

Re: [GreenMachine] BAJ
Chris - BAJ= Bridal Assist Jump

What happens if your holder has unexpected seizure or heart attack, or sneezes?

my rule at work is main job files stay in the office. my boss' reasoning is, if i get hit by a bus, or explode, burn, and die, with my files, although he'll be sad to see me go, it could also cost him money in lost documentation.

i guess no reason to take unnecessary chances. i see no reason to remove PC on an assisted jump, can only make things worse.

Re: [Kiki32] BAJ
I'd like to try a self bridle-assist jump. Sounds like fun. Just hold on really tight to your own bridle, that way you know you won't drop it, and you don't have to trust a friend. Has dorkzone hero experimented with this technique yet? Plus, pilot chutes are always blowing around and making it seem too windy to be jumping, which makes you look unprofessional on youtube.
Shortcut
Re: [JordanKilgore] BAJ
Thats an awesome idea. you can hold the bridle with both hands and once you jump, just start pulling on it really fast until the canopy comes out. If you complete it before hitting the ground, you win and get to try it again! Wink
Shortcut
Re: [Kiki32] BAJ
Another good one is the "pet assist" method. This is where you remove the pilot chute, and replace it with your dog's (or cat's) favorite toy. Then you just get your pet to play with it, and as you jump off the object, the canopy is extracted. Just make sure you use a toy that the dog likes, but isn't too attached to. If they hang on too tight, this causes some excess drag while under canopy. Also, object selection is key. My dog has a hard time climbing certain antennas sometimes, but most cliffs and bridges are fine.

Re: [hookitt] BAJ
BULLSEYE! on the Chicken Assist. I totally forgot about that.

I'm gonna go against the grain and say bullshit on the pilot chute hindering performance thing. I understand the concept, but...we are jumping low performance parachute here. The difference would be negligible and not worth the trade off to safety. Why buy a PC if you are just going to die with it in your closet?

My D bags have a bridle on them. When I D Bag some one, I put a PC on it or fasten it to the structure.

Here is a pic of TJ just before the bag got yanked out of my hands.
