Horrible year it has been. :/ Even though we had our controversies we also shared some nice jumps and some nice exits with Jim. My thoughts are with his wife and baby daughter, fly free bro.

From the Baffin team:
"Weather conditions and gear were not contributing factors.
More information will become available in time.
Out of respect for JM’s family and friends, please refrain from speculation and be patient."
Hang in there Baffiners.

A sad day.....I met Jim in LB a few years ago, and had the pleasure of making a few with him. He was a real "Go-Getter", and had that wild fire in his eyes that said it all.......

Re: [basehoundsam] Fatality in Baffin yesterday?
You saw that fire too. Nice, Devilish was it not? I thought it was only me who saw this. When I met him at ITW and he introduceded himself as Jim I asked him if he was Jimmy Freemann (another great controversial friend) and got a bit irate and luckily for me he did not punch me out and we were friends forever after he knew I was joking him. My heart goes out to you Flo.

Re: [Rover] Fatality in Baffin yesterday?
I received this e-mail two days ago.

"On the evening of May 8th, our dear friend Jim Mitchell was killed on a jump on Baffin Island. Out of respect for his family and friends, we will not be making a public statement or releasing any details at this time. Family and friends request that their privacy be respected and that they not be contacted for any information."

Re: [Rauk] Fatality in Baffin yesterday?

I think we've already got most of the answers as to what happioned. keep in mind they were a long way from home. We may have sat phones and internet blogs now but Baffin is still remote by any standard. There are things that just can not be handaled over an HF radio. They wont even be able to start to deal with this till they get back to the world. Give them a chance to deal with this. I'm sure they'll come out with an incedent report of what happened.

The family may still be comming to grips with all this. If they've asked for time to be able to greave I think we should give them the space they need.

Re: [RiggerLee] Fatality in Baffin yesterday?
from a practical matter, we can't expect to get details. we can only hope.

let's be generous to those involved. let's give them space. (it's a long way from Baffin to Australia).

in time, they may be generous and provide details. they may not. it's their call.

Pidge obviously left a wonderful impression on many.
RIP

Re: [wwarped] Fatality in Baffin yesterday?
Hi guys, I'm a reporter for a local newspaper from where Jim grew up in Australia. His father invited me to a memorial service for Jim, so I thought I'd post the story here.

I'm sorry you lost him, he sounds like a great character.

Re: [baldas] Fatality in Baffin yesterday?
U all know Jim didn't like me much but i find it pretty sad that his body is going to stay on the side of a mountain. Does anyone know if there are plans for a future recovery when the weather gets better?
