Fox Canopy control line length.for 265
Ive got a 265 Fox...

Any Fox jumpers shorten their control lines a little and if so how much?

i've contacted the manufacturer but havent' had a response yet.

the cotrol lines measure out at 123"-1/8" (from cascade loop to toggle loop-toggle taken off)... i was wanting a slightly snappier response in my turns.

my weight is 175 to 180 without gear. im around 6 feet tall if that matters.

And i realise the the Fox was designed to be a slower , sinking type canopy.. i just want it a little snappier!

thanks to all Smile

FYI I have had much better luck contacting Apex through email than phone. Not sure how you went about trying to contact them. I would measure my lines, but its at apex for some work. Do you have the 5th control line? That would help some in the turning/flaring department.(One of the things my fox is at apex for).

im not a "5th line" kind of guy.

but thanks.

im just wondering, based on my measurement, what others have done similar?

thanks Smile

i must admit that i am confused on exactly what you're asking. at first i thought you were talking about a line set, but then i saw you were just talking about control lines.

i am no expert, but i have never measured a control line in my life, i simply tie the knot somewhere around the manufacturer's mark, jump it, and then figure out if i want to tie it shorter or longer.

what am i missing?

Forgive me if I'm mistaken, but I think what you're asking is how far should the toggle be from the tail of the canopy, right? If so, there is no fixed length that will work for everyone, but it is a simple task to figure out where the toggle should be put. line length should be the shortest possible that you can still acheive full flight from your canopy with your hands all the way up. If the lines are too short, you won't be achieving full flight even when your hands are all the way up, which will result in reduced flare power. If your lines are too long, you will be achieving full flight, but your turns will be slower since you will have to pull some slack out of the lines before you starting pulling down your trailing edge.

I would also like to say that the fox, although a great canopy in my opinion, turns slower and has a weaker flare than any other base canopy I've flown (BJ, troll, raven).

Also remember, the ideal toggle setting is going to be slightly different between jumping slider up and slider down. I have to move my toggles down the lines a little when I jump SU.
