Pull test pictures
My lazy ass still hasn't finished a proper write-up, but I uploaded some photos of the first pull-test. Old frayed spectra loop, which secured the deep brake setting. Nearly 40% worn through before the test, still held over 800 lbs.

Re: [Colm] Pull test pictures
some ideas, just for shits and grins:
--80lb break cord (single strand)
--80 lb break cord (loop)
--static climbing rope (typical size used for rappeling)
--the section of a bridle that you hook a static line to
--a standard piece of 550 cord
--a pull-up cord
--rubber band (full thickness)
--rubber band (half thickness)

Re: [Colm] Pull test pictures
an old'er' guy that i play foosball with every monday, works for tinius olsen, they build/use same types of machines . . .

he said that the standard rate of pull for webbing is 12 in per min
what rate did you use?

he liked how you rigged the top end (to 2 rapid links). apparently clamping the webbing will case failure at the clamp. they use a 'spool' clamp (around a 4in 'spool' & attached @ middle - was what he said)

how was the bottom rigged? (couldn't see in your pic)

Re: [thrillseek & GooManChew] Pull test pictures
thrillseek: thanks for the suggestions. Break cord, various knots, and the "carry-with-you" static line device are high on my list.

GMC: bottom was rigged by just pinching the riser webbing in a simple, vertical clamp. we weren't anywhere close to forces where that would matter.

the top end was actually just a loop-end trap in the dacron, that we fed thru a steel S-hook. then we clamped the S-hook in the clamp.

Edit to add: pull rate was 10mm/minute, that's as fast as this device will go.
