How do you pull on wingsuit BASE jumps?
Just curious what you are doing out there.

Have you changed from what you started out doing?

i honestly believe (for the most part)

It depends on the size of suit/suits arms wings.

ive jumped a bunch on PHantom/phantom2/acro/birdman classic and some others,,, mostly phantoms i just keep legs open and pull, obivously pulling both arms back at the same time....

ive jumped some bigger suits, v1, and v2
bigger suits with bigger arms some close legs, and ive tried both and prefer (because of safety and time factor) to pull full flight for sure using the boc...
most are use ing side pouch now,, and in retro spect i think its wiser to use in BASE enviro ment.. because of armwing size...

some KEEP legs open (on bigger suits) and roll nose, and use small mesh slider and still use 36/38 bigmesh PC...

SOME keep legs open, have big mesh slider, vents(OF ALL VARIETS 1center, 3center , 4 no center , 5!!!)NO NOSE ROLL and just eat the pain, and a 38/40 bigmesh vented handled PC. AND PULL N; FULL flight

but truthfuully , THE PAIN,,, uh your stilll falling vertically slower so....??? eh it's not that bad,, usually.

and if fulll flight pulls hurt you, (there safer though) jump a medium size wingsuit. and just remember the limits of a medium size wingsuit.

as a side note i went back to the phantom just b ecaus i'm not hitn' it hard...

sorry if post seems scattered

And again : i close arm wings, pull, keep the arm wings closed, keep leg wing open , then as i'm going into saddle my knees naturally come together,,

i worry about the whole popping back into flight with the front wings creating a bigger burble, perhaps i'm wrong,,,

i cant change the way i do it any way itts ingrained in me, way ingrained..

long post, i know i was bored this...Unimpressed

I think arm wing creates relatively small burble compared to body & leg wing - the latter two create giant vacuum void behind your body. The whole area from your shoulders to your feet is nothing but turbulence. Since the armwing's chord is only a 1/3rd or 1/4th of the length of your body, the amount of disturbed air behind the armwing is much smaller.

However, it's harder to maintain stability when the leg wing is fully closed. Returning to full flight with leg wing half closed puts you in slightly head-high position which reduces the swing and the shock on the shoulders.

yeah,, i pretty much know why people do it espeacially with bigger/faster suits but,in my head it bugs me, like i said idont know,, but it bugs me,,, i'd say your right,,, i still have my way ingrained in my head.

for me to change would be an epic task for sure....

to go from the way i explained to: flyin',both arms back pull, keep arms to side , keep legs open, gradually close legs (without thinkiing) as the lines stretch, unzip arms as para chute inflates (sometimes), unloosen chest strap, then the legs (if time perits, etc)

to: flyin', both arms back pull. keep leg wing open then half close and at same time pop arm wings back to full flite, then close everyhthing again and start upzipping, and unloosing chest strap ( so i can maximize my canopy's flight) then unzip my leg wings ( if i have time- most always do)... etc.. ugh man,,,, but again i know why some do this ,, it tend s to slow down the Slam (esspeacialy with bigger suits),,, but too much for me too change in my muscle memory,,,

and even if i had extra time to change i dont' thinkg i could cause , the extra fabric out as i extract my PC would mentally fuck wiht me,,, again i'm probabl y wrong..dont knwo,, but that's why some jump pahtoms/experts and some jump v3/profly size can Fuck with ya', u know!! especially if yhour not hitin it hard like ya used to,

aerodynamic surfaces tend to have smoother airflow than typical objects. (an airplane support wire, for example, can generate more drag than a properly shaped support strut. odd stuff.)

thus keeping the wings extended might promote a smoother, less turbulent airflow.

wind tunnels reveal all kinds of surprising stuff. VBK did some tunnel research. I don't know if they tested this situation. if they did, I'd go with their thinking!

IM NOT an anti moderator guy so dont take what i say a such when i say.

do u wingsuit base?

please take note that pulling and going back into full flight is an art,,, if you compramise bodyposition in the least you will Screw up your opening. mind you a BASE opening is faster so that helps but still... i know of many scary stories of body position screwing up openings in WS BASE,,,,

that being said,,, in your early stages of skydiving to wingsuit BASE , pratice this style of opening over and over and do it right and there u go .. all power to ya...seriously.. just learn it and apply it........

but in my case i developed another way and would have a hard tim e changing,,, it s a mind fuck,,, maybe i have a weak mind???

but anyway again not a moderator attack i assure..

i wonder if the other yURI WHo is barely a moderator but so sskilled and well traveled i'm sure he doesnt have to time to be on the internet Wink,,.. he'll probably tear me a new one and tell me to learn all over and call me a weakminded pussy etc...

good topic Smile

nahhh. it's all good. I really have zero advice on wingsuiting, thus I did not vote and suggested listening to experts. my real focus was on the burble size/shape comment earlier, NOT on the best pitch technique.

Wingsuit BASE ---> Dangerous
I do not wingsuit and I did not vote.
Just an FYI - most people's arm span
is approximately equal to their height.
