BASE Jump Miami
Hello everybody!

I would like to introduce myself first. I'm Yan and I'm new to this site and BASE jumping and parachuting. I've never parachuted before, but I've always had the itch since I was younger. Too bad you have to be 18 >:(

I've been seeing this building next to [too much detail]. Every time I look at it, I want to jump off it. [a lot more removed]. [something] was a few feet away from there. I think that open field would make a perfect exit point.

I've looked into BASE jumping. I don't know much, but I do know that I have to jump downwind.

My questions are, is the building tall enough? And what is the wind direction for that particular area?

Thanks guys, and I look forward to being a regular member on this site!

let me be the first of many to tell you this.

YOU'RE GONNA DIE.

But seriously. You want AT LEAST a 33mph head wind.

Do not jump from the corners because they are really sharp and if you were to hit them they will cut you bad.

They have been known to cut jumpers who have jumped the corners in the past.

So you jump from the middle of the building where the structure is "softer"

Hope this helps

we don't really name objects here. who knows, maybe someone IS jumping it! if so, I doubt it's legal. do you really think people want to jump up and down telling you about it?

I really don't know one way or the other.

you really need to start skydiving. one jump will explain a lot to you.

I believe you are putting the cart before the horse, as they say. While I understand the social niceties of introducing oneself in a new forum/community, it would also be wise to do a little research on your own to get a feel for the community you are interested in joining.

Having some idea of what BASE is all about and putting a little effort into searching this and other forums shows a modicum of respect for the sport and community and will garner more serious responses.

Having said that, LEARN TO SKYDIVE.

Spend some more time on here using the search function, reading the articles (several are specific to 'getting into base'). Here's a start:

USPA: http://www.uspa.org/
Articles: http://www.basejumper.com/articles/
'Getting into BASE': http://www.basejumper.com/...s/Getting_Into_BASE/

Books on BASE (in no particular order) for interesting reading while learning to skydive:
Confessions of an Idiot by Chris ‘Douggs’ McDougal
BASE 66 by Jevto Dedijer
Groundrush by Simon Jakeman
Search my previous posts for a recap of my own experience getting into this sport.

Cheers,
Sol

Yo. What's up man? What was the name of that book we were talking about last weekend? I can't remember for the life of me. Regardless, glad to see you made it home safely.

Thanks for those links. I've read all of them and now I know that there is a lot for me to do before getting a parachute and jumping off a building. What seemed simple became complex.

I took a few pics from my phone of the building and the exit point. I'm going to upload them for you as soon as I figure out a way of doing it (not too good with technology). The thing that I don't understand is why BASE jumpers don't talk about the location.

The building appears to be still in construction and if I get the permission from the developers and owners to jump, it should be legal. I'm not trespassing, so therefore I won't be breaking the law.

Next year I am going to purchase VIP tickets to [removed], and I want to make sure that I will get VIP entry!

we dont want objects to be named b/c if they get named on here the authorities will know where to look, this is a public forum thus what is on here is public knowledge. good luck getting permission from owners and developers and everyone else to make it a legal jump...dont forget about the endangering the public law, can hit you on that too.

that is why you need to lurk, read, etc. it demonstrates how much you need to understand.

iirc... FL construction sites carry felony trespassing charges.

openly discussing indicates that an active jumping community exists. a reasonable person might ask, "where else might they be jumping?" I can recall one city where one spotted jumper caused security to be elevated (supposedly) at several other objects.

I could go on, but instead, why don't you explain why it SHOULD be openly discussed? what's the advantage?

The OP should also understand that talking
about and planning an act that is illegal can
get him/her charged with conspiracy.

Simply owning a parachuting and knowing
how to open it does NOT make one ready
to safely jump off of a building and fly a
parachute to the ground without injury.

Why don't people try wrestling alligators?
The Crocodile Hunter made it look easy,
