ground Launching advice, is this pos?? thanks
i'm trying to work out if a jump would be possible, the height of the mountain is 2500m and the distance is 3km to the lz, i'm flying a electra 170 on standard trim, with a wing loading of 1.6... and looking to launch into a wind of between 3 - 5mph.

the first part of the take off site has a gradiant 1:1 before getting more cliff like, than continues at around 1:1.5 for the rest of the trip.

lac du carroley is the reference lake about 1k nw of the lake at the top

The peak is to the left of the top lift, heading north towrads the town of laundry..

advice on trimming, and general feisabillity would be apriciated,

thanks in advance

Yes definitely. With all my knowledge of base jumping and exactly how this is a pertinent question, this will definitely work.

it may be flyable. no one here can help you much, finding new places to fly is not done over the internet. and since you're asking here I have a feeling you have no idea what you are doing. not insulting at all, just observing.

1:1 is a pretty serious slope. pretty much anything can fly that. if the total gradient angle from launch to landing is 1.5:1 as you specified that should be no sweat.

if there is an out closer than what you specified, then i say go for it. but are you sure on the glide angles? a "electra" I have never heard of but it sounds like a piece. from a foot launch perspective I deduct a few points on glide for determining glide at a site.

your link does not work. even when made into a link.

I think he was making a suggestion that your question really did not apply to BASE. it might be fun, and lot's of folks here enjoy the activity, but it is not BASE.

so... it is my unglorified job to be the prick and move the thread to "The Hangout."

Calvin I see your point, but i have a few jumps under my belt, its a bit of a strange one for me as i have not had any ground launching experiance in the mountains, just hills in england...

I'm having trouble working out my glide angle on my electra, which is a elip, zp canopy, its not american so i understand you guys will find it hard to belive that it exists Shocked

I was hoping to get info with some of the colorado crw who may have experiance with flying skydiving canopys in simular soroundings, with regards to both winds, thermals, and glide angles, possibly themselves having opened up routes here and there in the states and have some experiance in this matter.

you are right the internet is not always the right place to start, but i'd rather put a feeler out about an object / jump / equipment and get slammed... then being a stubbon cunt and having people talking about my untimely death and wondering why i did not ask some "obvious" questions.

Thanks for your input though, i'm doing a walk dow n the intended line tommorrow, and will make my choice after i've got some more input.

I have a strong dislike for foot launching skydiving canopies, they were not designed for it and perform as such. not saying it is impossible, I have done my fair share of it, but I STRONGLY recommend using equipment that was built for it, trust me, it shows. Better glide, faster flight speed, slower launch and landing speed, more maneuverable, decisively faster recovery arcs if you want that, and long ones if you want that (different gliders for different things)

If you think you can handle it, I would say go for it, but remember wind is weird, the ground is hard and you are reverse-landing very close to it. most accidents happen on launch or right after it. no one will be surprised if you break your back doing it, but If the site really is 1/1 for 2000' or anywhere close I would love to come fly it and test it for you.

It's FrenchUnsure which means it's shit even for skydiving.

I did some GL with a Sabre135, I also used to own a Gin Nano 13m2 that I used to use to GL properly.

IMHO, dont bother with the skydiving canopy if you are wanting to GL off serious landscapes.

The Nano I found to be very skydiving canopy like, unlike some others that are more PG canopy like and require other skill sets to understand flight with them.

From what I remember the Nano is based on a French skydiving canopy (cant remember the name at the moment), which was very similar to the Stilletto.
