Asylum BASE Seven Canopy
I'm seriously considering getting the Seven. Does anyone who's not affiliated with Asylum have any first hand experience with the canopy? How does its openings and flight compare to the Blackjack or Ace?

Re: [460] Asylum BASE Seven Canopy
I dont think Im actually affiliated with asylum. More positive than a ace, less positive than a blackjack. Inflation is faster than an ace, not quite as completely pressurized instantly as a BJ. No weird heading performance issues. Slider up terminal is MUCH more comfortable than a BJ. My all F111 flares better than a BJ, probably a little less powerful than a ZP BJ. Flies in half breaks better than my ace for sure, and better by less than a BJ. For a while I still preferred my ace slider down, but now that my break settings are more dialed in on the 7, i like it better. I have a ZP demo right now, but only have one jump on it so I wont comment on any specifics. I have a video I can pm you a link to that is almost an exactly equal amount of blackjacks and sevens taking deep delays off of potash so you can judge for yourself if you want.

Could you PM me that link as well??
Slider up or down off Potash?

My buddy bought a seven 240. When we were in Norway last summer he got Rocked hard serveral times (got some flim somewhere of it). We tried (Along with other people) to slow it down but it always opened hard.

But on other note it has been a great Slider down rig.

my two cents

Re: [KevinSpencer] Asylum BASE Seven Canopy
Interesting, ive got probably 70 terminal jumps on mine, no real hard openings to speak of. How was he rolling the nose? Also, ive put 12 jumps on a ZP seven 260 now. Slider up subterminal is similar to the regular seven, maybe a slightly snappier opening, but not that different in general. Slider down are more positive, really nice inflation. I used the deepest of the three brake settings and it would open and not move and inch, really good. Glide is a little better, similar to the difference between the ZP blackjack and regular blackjack. Flare is really nice, landed it in 2-5 mph downwind on several of the jumps and was really impressed how well it shut down. Forward speed is a little faster than the non-zp model as well. I want to do some more slider down jumps off of lower stuff, maybe a trip to the perrine and moab to see how it works out there.

replaced my mojo with a seven demo....opens like it has vents....i thought it had vents....couldnt find any vents, but was sure i had been lied to.....i dont like vents, but i like the 7......sent the demo back and put mojo back it.....i got scared........want seven back.....always have to shorten brake lines with factory ACE's and SEVEN's, but i like them, especially the seven.....real soft and felt real good on my hands while packin.......they smell real good and new, not like my mojo....it smells like wet dog.....if seven had vents, it would probably kill you, but it dosent.....so get a seven......theyre way better than fliks

You on your pill diet again motherfucker? What happened to "FLiK is the best canopy in the world, i want a FLiK, I'd sell my mother to the fatest, greasiest inbred that wanted to fuck her i could find, and even watch him do her if he asked me too. Thats how much i love the FLiK "

SO uh... which canopy did you use for sub 200ft FF? I believe it was a my ragged out FLiK with more cosmetic scars than Sharon Ozbourne.

oh yea.......flik is good.....flik worked great from 190 ft freefall.....i probably wouldnt freefall 190 ft with a mojo........but i would with a seven.........chestnuts flik is the best.........3 over 7 vents with a vent on center cell.........is awesome..........3 over 7 vents on a seven would be the best.......but would deffinatley kill you..........chestnut had a seven demo, but he didnt jump it, so i did........chestnut dont like marty.......but i do........and i like chestnut.........almost as much as i like his flik........i also like PIKEY's flik......but i dont like PIKEY.......not as much as like the seven.......seven is the easist canopy to pack........especially without clamps........i dont use clamps........but i would use a seven......especially from 190 ft

I also have quite a few terminal openings on 7's. Both from objects and plane jumps and never had any issues being able to slow the openings. My experience is that it is very easy to control and very consistent.

Dude! Lay off the drugs!

725 and I were talkin about you the other night. Our theory is you prefer jumping alone because you don't like to wait at the X while people are still climbing Wink

Re: [460] Asylum BASE Seven Canopy
After spending a ridiculous amount of time picking people's brain's and researching what ever I could find on the internet, I decided to get a Seven. I hit Marty up and found out he is a real friendly, knowledgeable guy that is very generous with his time answering all the newbie questions I had/have. After receiving my canopy (that yes, smells fantastic) I hop 'n popped my seven in a big old rig that Pete hooked up. dialed in the brake setting, found where I could get it to fly backwards, stall, rear riser turns etc. It stands very still after deployment and starts flying like a wing once the toggles are pulled from the keepers. I dont have a lot of experience but after doing the side by side comparison with the mojo, the seven feels like it has more glide and is more receptive in all of the controls and has a better glide ratio. Hope that helps you in your decision

Re: [hjumper33] Asylum BASE Seven Canopy
It says the seven is less volume. is it really noticibly different? A mate was telling me that a gargoyl and a 260 fox would weigh aprox 9 kg. Says its a brick. How heavy is the seven (say 260 - 280) and a pedgree pro? As far as i know they guy has standard articulated hardware.
Shortcut
Re: [tunnelvision9] Asylum BASE Seven Canopy
Yes it's quite noticeable. The Seven will pack up considerably smaller than the same size Fox.
Shortcut
Re: [hookitt] Asylum BASE Seven Canopy
what about the weight? maybe a cultural difference with countries, by softer you meant smaller right?? If anybody has a seven and a pedgree pro, could you tell me the weight of your rig. Maybe mention the size of canopy also.Wink
Shortcut
Re: [tunnelvision9] Asylum BASE Seven Canopy
I don't know about the weight but it is lighter. It packs smaller and will be more comfortable if it's replacing a canopy that packs tightly into your current rig.

The Seven was a demo so I will ask someone who knows how much the combination weighs and get back to you.

What type of jumping are you doing so that a few pounds makes a big difference?
Shortcut
Re: [hookitt] Asylum BASE Seven Canopy
Not a base jumper yet (have 110 jumps). need to clock in a 100 more jumps. Asked locals shit loads of questions about everything. one guy (most experienced) told me to buy new gear even for a first rig. Then another guy said get a vented canopy because you will want quicker presurization incase of 180. didnt want too much bulk on the thing. Thought seven would be the best option(fast presurization) also cos all the guys travel a few times a year around europe to swiss valley, itw, norway ect. all big walls. So id have this thing on my back for a long time. And the seven is cheaper than the bj according to asylum.com. want to get weight comparisons to other rigs to see if its worth the few extra money than getting a gargol and a troll combo like the rest of the locals.not many local jumpers around so if you have any advice give me a pm. would be much appriciatedSmile

Re: [tunnelvision9] Asylum BASE Seven Canopy
Here ya go:

Approx 15.5 lbs + or - a tiny bit, all packed up and in an Asylum stash bag.
- Seven 260.
- Perigee Pro with standard weight 1000 denier cordura (plus the rest of the material used in making a rig)
- Articulated harness,
- hook knife
- 42 inch Pilot chute
- Bridle
- Risers
- Toggles
- stash bag.

A standard harness without articulation will be about 3/4 lb lighter.

If I remember correctly my rig with with a black jack 240. is closer to 18 pounds. Next time I'm next to a scale with my rig, I'll weigh it.

Re: [hookitt] Asylum BASE Seven Canopy
Cheers for the info. Very precise, nice. Yeah i think im going to go for that canopy. 15.5 lbs or 7kg does not seem that bad to lug around on a hike, but defnitly seems worth the extra cash insead of getting a brick as a mate calls it.anyways thanks. With your bj how do you find it for big walls or are you a slider down slut?
Shortcut
Re: [hookitt] Asylum BASE Seven Canopy

Re: [vid666] Asylum BASE Seven Canopy
Thanks for the info. This is really giving me a good insight into all these rigs(making it a little easier to make up my mind before buying one) without actually seen these rigs. what about the ace? or is that alot like the bj (similar weight just not as much volume) just that its not vented?
Shortcut
Re: [tunnelvision9] Asylum BASE Seven Canopy
ACE=unvented BJ.
So slightly less volume, and slightly less weight
Shortcut
Re: [460] Asylum BASE Seven Canopy
On the subject of weight, Hybrid 2 w/ Trango 205 + pilot chute = 8.75 lbs on my scale. Jeannoel (Adrenalin Base) weighed it on his shop scale and it was around 8 lbs, but I can't remember exactly...

Re: [fenix66] Asylum BASE Seven Canopy
Yea i heard the ace was pretty much a bj. Similar flight characteristics. 16lbs including stashbag. Not sure what decals are??? yea the seven seems the best canopy out there for soth slider up and down when it comes to volume and weight. Heard of two clif striks on this board with the seven. Apperently the canopy stayed inflated, any more info on that because i could not find any. Maybe a link if there is a thread for it. Also how low have people jumped using this canopy. freefall not pca or static.

Re: [tunnelvision9] Asylum BASE Seven Canopy
230 and 260 have been my two lowest, and whatever jawbone is. Jumped plenty of low stuff at moab with it too. ZP option is fantastic for low stuff, but most of my low stuff has been on a regular and its no slouch.

Re: [fenix66] Asylum BASE Seven Canopy
thanks for the info about what decals were. adrennlen looks great but im under the impression the tango is not good for slider own jumps(wears too quick??). Yeah im planning on this as a all rounder rig(lots of low stuff Sub 300 ft upto 180ft and high jumps when i can afford a flight and when iceland stops ejacklating all over the place) Mad Dont think i will need decals but would love to be told straight about it by you guys. Pm's about buying gear in general would be nice, maybe been told straight about buying new or second hand. Really want your 2 cents on all this shit. So pm me about buying gear and all that. cheers in advance.
