Spine protector with impact shorts
Hey!

I'm planning to buy some protection for jumping. I wanted to buy Dainese Gilet Wave 2 back protector and impact shorts.
First question is, isn't the back protector a bit too much and won't it limit the moves somehow?

Second question is if I have both, since the back protector will be on top of the shorts, won't this kind of "configuration" limit the moves?

I tried to contact Dainese but they didn't reply.

I'll be glad for any answers from people that have used this kind of gear.

I use the exact same protector shorts on most of the low jumps I do, very comfortable and you wont even notice them after couple of jumps. I've also used Dainese spine protector together with the shorts and it works as well. I personally do not like the spine protector that much but I know couple of guys who regularly jump with that setup (Dainese spine protector + shorts) and for them it feels ok. Try it out and decide yourself.

ok, thanks for the answer.

The thing is that I can buy those only through internet since there's no shop with dainese gear in my city, that's why I wanted to hear some opinions.

Broke my back on sunday Crazy

I'll be buying this sort of protection shortly, it would have saved my ass from being super sore, and my hip.

I wish I had some of those pants on, I "impacted"Tongue right where the lower back protection lies

You sure about this? Based on your classifieds ad you live in Oulu and at least in Helsinki they sell Dainese protective gear in most of the Intersports.

That was me eight months ago. The irony is I was even checking out these protectors about a week before breaking myself, but couldn't quite decide.

I now have both the shorts and jacket (Dainese), and though the jacket adds some bulk (check your pin tension with the spine protector) I wouldn't say it's really limiting, and the shorts you really don't notice.

I think they closed the last intersport in Oulu some time ago, and in other sport shops I've found only protection from RED.

But it woudn't harm to try and look a bit more :)

There are two Intersports in Oulu. The rintamäki shop is nowadays intersport + there is one in Karjasilta. But i'm guessing you checked the rintamäki store since its fairly obvious and the other store is fairly small anyways.

Re: [skow] Spine protector with impact shorts
For low B's & E's I really pad up. I have found this uncomfortable
from heat in warm climates, like our hot/rainy day in Sibu, and
putting your rig on takes a little extra effort, but have not found
my movements restricted.

By the way, I also wear my impact shorts if I am doing a whole
day of tandems. They help reduce bruising from hard openings,
numbness from sitting on your ass for 10 hours in a Cessna, and
for landing they are nice, especially the occasional thump when
your catchers won't run to you on windy days.

Of course they increase the girth of your pelvis so you need to
have a pair of baggy or larger shorts/pants and you will notice
your leg straps do not tighten to their usual place.

FYI - my spine protector and impact shorts are by SixSixOne.

if you are worried about movement then you should check out POC protection, spine VPD vest, its not a hard plastic so you have full mobility with it

Yep I was in Rintamäki and I found only RED there. Haven't been to Karjasilta yet, but I'll check it out.

I think I'll go with hard protection anyway. Maybe I'll sacrifice a bit of comfort but safety first :)

Anyway, thanks everybody for the answers

i feel them really comfortable to use both. my shorts are also custom made with the zipped, so you can put them on without taking your pants off. only thing which i have noticed is that my back protector is too long and it hits time to time in the plastic part of the shorts which protects your ass. i might buy shorter one...

Mr. Biceps,

Here is the exact Spine Protector I have.

Here is the closest thing I can find,
with minimal effort, that matches
the Impact Shorts I have.

FastPete

My spine protector does bump the top of my
impact shorts but I only notice it when driving,
climbing, or packing not when actually jumping.

Re: [skow] Spine protector with impact shorts
I'm a little late to the party here, but I wanted to support what others have said. I wear Dainese on every jump I do (except rounds -- don't like the idea of swimming with armour on). It's super-comfortable, and the back protector of all things isn't restrictive, though I know people who stitch-ripped the shoulder armour off (I've never felt the need to do that). If it weren't for my choice to wear it on every jump, I wouldn't be typing this today.
