Rigger's advice on sewing machine
A friend offered an early to mid 60's Kenmore, flip top pop-out table mounted with foot pedal - model 158.14311. He says it works well. I have not done any rigging (yet) but plan on learning. Would this be worth picking up for free?

Re: [Boeris] Rigger's advice on sewing machine
I say take it.

Although I'm not up on the particular models of Kenmore machines, they are generally pretty good basic and easy to use (learn on) machines. That one, more than likely, has a cast aluminum body (as opposed to plastic) and probably is a direct gear drive from the motor (no O-ring or drive belt).

You probably won't be building your own container with it and I don't know how large a needle/thread size it can handle, but shit, if it works and it's free then grab it and use it just for practice!

It'll throw a decent 301 lockstitch and a 304 zig zag on light weight material.

for free ?

sure. just make sure to get a needle large enough to handle 69 thread and chop away at unsuspecting pullupcords and whatever other junk you want to practice on.

worst case scenario you can always sell it on craigslist :)

FREE is usually a good price
I have 2 free light duty machines which are great
for practice and patching canopies, jumpsuits, etc.

When you are finished using it pass it on to the
next guy or donate to Goodwill for a tax deduction.
