the Grim Reaper existed long before parachutes.
(what's the "Life" analogy?)
many religions seem fascinated by death. they use the specter of an afterlife to moderate behavior in this life.
then there tends to be a much more grand, elaborate ceremony/celebration when someone dies than at their birth.
cemeteries, necropolises, etc. lie scattered around the globe.
doctors act as if their greatest achievement is to delay death. rarely do they seem concerned with the quality of life. their focus is on preventing death.
I've even read a viewpoint that Death serves as a constant companion. a person can look over their shoulder and Death will tell them, not yet.
I wish modern societies had a better relationship with death. but as one Mick said, "You can't always get what you want..."
