seven as a first canopy
ok not a base jumper yet, still got a long, long way to go. But id like to know what your opinions were. The seven canopy description says its good for all types of jumps, low and high. very easy to to pack, good for beginners no? Less volume so i imagine its lighter. doesnt seem overly expensive when you compare it to other canopies like the blackjack and fox, flick. Also it says its good for slow fllying and can be agressive if needed. my q is do you think it would be suitable for beginners? if not why? like to hear your opinions.

Re: [tunnelvision9] seven as a first canopy
I see no reason why it wouldnt be good for beginning jumpers. Pretty much every modern canopy is pretty good for beginning jumpers, im sure someone will come up with a reason one isnt. Ive got 100+ jumps on sevens from a 240 foot freefall to backcountry wingsuit jumps with landings near 10k, and I have no complaints.

It's a great canopy with a lot of range. There's no need to consider it a beginner or advanced canopy, it's just a damn good parachute that is easy to control.

I don't own one yet. I jump a Black Jack at the moment and have a lot of time under them. My next canopy is a Seven.

You will be very happy with a seven. I am just waiting to get some $$ for one. On a personal note I have a vintage fox for a trade of a seven. Vintage makes things more valuable, right? LaughUnsure

I cannot imagine any modern BASE-specific canopy being "bad" for a beginning BASE jumper.

Someone mentioned a few years ago that the Blackjack/Ace had a "poor/long" recovery arc. (what the hell are you doing BASE jumping where a few percent difference in recovery arc matters?Tongue)

I have not jumped a Seven enough to have an opinion, but from what everyone says, magic. go for it!

Any thoughts about it being non-vented (at least from what I understand) in terms of object strike? I don't see jumping low solid objects in the near future, but...

Re: [getbanks] seven as a first canopy
Unfortunately there have been a few jumpers that have had an object strike while jumping a Seven, in both cases that i speak about, to my understanding, the seven remained completely inflated during the entire process. 1 got it turned around after strike and landed o.k., and the other bounced off the face of a rock wall several times until he landed semi gentle on a talus. But again, the seven stayed inflated and held rigid form during both incidents.

Cannot speak about how or what caused the strikes to begin with, but usually stikes can be associated with a multitude of things, ie: Bad winds, Bad body postion, PC oscillation, and bad decisions. Oh yeah, and "X" factor.

I don't know man, I think a seven is a bit over your head here Unsure I mean a big, docile, f111, wing, modernly designed and tested for the base environment?? Maybe you should do the research and you'll see that a Raven or a triathalon would be better suited for what we do! I mean, who wants an inflated canopy over them when they're face to face with a solid obeject? Tongue

The Seven is a SICK canopy. I only have about 20 jumps on a demo 280w zp foreskin. It has tremedous glide but still retains the ability to sink in steep. Nice powerfull flare even when in deeps.

I'm with Calvin, I have a hard time seeing any modern BASE canopy as "UN-suitable" for begginers. But, the Seven is a gem. A great canopy. Marty is a good guy and Asylum products are the SHIT :)

Get it.
