New to Base
Just wanted to introduce myself to the forum. I have been lurking around reading articles and the forums for what seems like forever. I have been skydiving since 06' and have always had the dream of base jumping. I wanted to say thank you for all of the available information posted on the forum, it provides an invaluable look into the sport. I am currently enrolled in the apex fbjc over memorial day weekend and I am really excited about it. I hope to meet and jump with as many of you as possible but I also know I must crawl before I walk! Also if anyone from the Dallas crew or other crews around Tx would like to show me around and give a newbie some guidance after my fbjc, it would be greatly appreciated. As I know I will still have a lifetime of learning to do.

Welcome, 1st post in 5+ years of lurking. More new jumpers should follow your lead.
I will be out in Twin MDW as as well (with a large NorCal crew hopefully)! TF is a Great place to learn. I know a few Houston jumpers, but I am sure there is a Dallas crew. Have fun getting ready for your newest adventure, it will be 3,2,1...before you know it.

I will be out in Twin for memorial day weekend as well. I took Apex's course during the same weekend last year and Jimmy & Marta are awesome. I am sure you will have a great time and I will see you out there. Until then be safe and have fun!!

Re: [elgatoblanco] New to Base
Jimmy and Marta are fantastic, and my Apex DP has served me very well too. But make sure you plan to stay in Twin Falls for several days (a week, perhaps?) after the course. They'll teach you a lot of what you need to know, but you'll definitely want to practise what you've learned after the course. Doing an additional 20 jumps will make the difference between being a well-informed beginner, to being ready to jump some local objects when you get home.

Of course, this assumes you've got your own gear, but since Apex can also provide you with rental gear during the course, this might not be the case. But since you seem pretty committed to BASE, I'd strongly recommend you do the course with your own gear, if at all possible.

Be safe and have fun!

Geo.

Re: [GreenMachine] Good Advice
Thanks for the advice! I ordered my own gear earlier this week so I should have it about a month before the course. I figured I would like to be packing my own gear efficiently so they could just critic me instead of having to start from scratch. I ordered the Apex dp with a flik 266. I made sure and speak with Marta and Jimmy at length about what equipment to buy since I am new to this. They recommended that I go with 4 vents on my canopy also for all around.

Re: [elgatoblanco] New to Base
I had to learn from the forums and articles. Kansas doesn't have to many base jumpers; nothing but A's here. If you do the research and have a good number of skydives, get a rig and go for it. If you ever get stuck out here your more than welcome to tag along; be warned that sheriffs don't "take kindly to jumping here."

man I feel like part of the fam already guys. Kind of makes me teary eyed Smile. Damn frijol, what happened with that jump? I hope im not taking a passanger anytime soon with me! My rig is camo, black, and orange, so when you peeps see me out there say what up for sure! It will be nice to put some faces to all the awesome people on this site. And I might take you up on that Kansas jumping Kelly, its not to far from me!

Frijol was completely in control on that jump. Some fruitcake wanted to ride on his cape and "photobombed" his jump........nuff said.

See ya' M-Day!

This is a great source of knowledge, I guess that there are plenty of people doing the same as he. I think I've read almost every thread here and all of the articles.

But then again, this is an internet forum and people act according to that as well.. :)

anyhow, it is a great amount of good info, so, thank you guys for everything...

Congrats on the new gear and good luck at the FJC! I am envious as hell! You have found just the right words to tame the masses on this site.

Seriously, I hope to be in your shoes next fall, or so. One thing, I used to think skydiving was daring and extreme...now I know it's just a stepping stone to the real show! Have a great time when you take the stage!
