Edited to add: He was a coward who blamed others for his financial situation who in the end sealed his legacy as a murderer. His little rant has nothing on Kaczynski's Manifesto and he suffers from paranoid schizophrenia brought on later in life.

And likewise, since they don't scrutinize the gov't but rather just swallow whatever the gov't says, they don't get that the gov't isn't there to protect, educate, aid, etc the people (http://www.youtube.com/...ot#p/u/2/1SH7jeWpmhI) They're actually surprised when they catch the gov't lying/cheating the people, as if it's a rare occurence.

Austin Plane Crash
By all means, airplanes for everyone! Let’s have a plane fly into a government building every five minutes for weeks on end by every person out there on the internet that rants about the government screwing them over and wants someone to pay attention to them.

Makes perfect sense, no one is paying attention to you, fly a plane into a building, bomb a plane, pull out a gun and kill a couple dozen people at your local school or at the office board meeting. Yep, that’ll get their attention, people will know you're pissed then.

Adding to the insanity of the world situation with acts of suicide and murder, makes perfect sense if you are indeed insane, in fact Kaczinski spoke of violence being the only solution and ranted against the Catholic church, Scientists and wealthy in his manifesto back in 1995. Joe Stack III, was an angry individual who lost touch with the reality of his situation. Why burn down your home, leaving your wife and step daughter homeless and without their belongings?

Hell, if you want to hear streams of rants against the government strung together in a fury of thought, tune into Glen Beck’s psycho babble on his infamous chalkboard.

If you don’t vote and I mean in all the elections, then you have in my mind forfeited your right to bitch and moan. The State of Illinois has the office of Governor and a U.S. Senate seat up for election, not sale, this November. In the district I live in out of 3560 registered voters, only 900 came out to vote in the primary election.

I can now picture in November all the “bitching and moaning” that there is no one worth voting for in the election. To which I say, “Where the hell where you people when it was time to choose in February’s voting? Oh, yeah, at home on the internet ranting about how the government screws them over.”

What happens at the local level of government effects your daily lives more so than our federal government. If you want change start in your own backyard and work within the framework to effect that change. Dividing the nation into "those that have" and those "that do not" only adds to the insanity.

My mail never arrives in my mailbox at the same time each day. When I asked why?, they said because my postman retired after 30 years and the new carrier was trying to figure out the route. Damn government. Excuse me while I go burn down the local post office, that will surely get there attention.

If Joe Stack Represents You, Get Help

Several times now, I have heard someone suggest that the tax hating suicidal pilot Joe Stack was a Tea Party member or that his actions were of a Tea Party nature, etc. I don’t think that’s fair to whoever calls themselves a member of the Tea Party movement. I bet it would be hard if not impossible to find a member of this movement who would fly an airplane into a building to get his or her point across. I don’t think it is relevant whom Stack voted for in the last presidential election, if he even voted at all. His actions were not conservative or liberal, they were tragic and insane.

I am trying to be fair here, because the ravings contained in Joe Stack’s final dispatch could very well be considered Glenn-Beck-icidal in their directionless, unmedicated fury. Will any group count Joe Stack as their own? Will anyone say that Stack’s final flight was what we can expect more of with a Washington, D.C., that doesn’t listen to the people? Is this an example of what happens when Real Americans stand up? I certainly hope not.

The Internet is ringing with postings arguing over whether Joe Stack was a hero, a coward, or a terrorist. What do you reckon? How about “average American steeped in seething irrational anger and overwhelming paranoia who loses the plot completely and unfortunately owns a plane”? I hope that Joe Stack was going rogue on this one and not affiliated with any party, as his actions obscure any point any group anywhere is trying to make. Any group showing any sympathy with Joe Stack is doomed to be tossed on the pity heap, not to mention a few security watch lists.

I don’t want to be taxed unfairly, but I don’t want to go untaxed either. I am one of those who likes bridges that don’t collapse, roads that are maintained, salaries for the firefighters who put their lives on the line every day, and so on. The money has to come from somewhere. It’s my country. I’m in!

Re: [tr027] Austin Plane Crash

Rome was the greatest empire on earth. It fell. We've had a good run here. Now it's down to crunch time. This country is in decline. You can talk about all diffrent kinds of things, natural resorces, shifting world economies... but the truth is that a good strong healthy country can weather and adapt to all of the above. We've faced worse cricease in the past. The great depreasion, the dust bowl, etc. We were able to rise above and recover from greater chalenges then we face now.

There are far more important factors that determin the fate of a country. They're some what harder to quantify. Things like the level of coruption, the moral and ethical center of a country, values. You can see these things shift and from it predict the strength resileance of a country therty to forty years in advance. It's hard to see what problems the comeing generations will face but you can see how they will face them. It's a simple matter of demographics. Population cycles are some of the greatest forces shaping national economies. But more then just the numbers it's the quality. Look at how they're raised. Look at the values of their parents and the culture of the time. These are the people that in twenty years will take the rains. It's not hard to see where they will drive us.

The problems in our country and it's economy have been formed over the last 10 to 15 years. Who was forty years old and at the hight of their carear 15 years ago. We're talking about people that grew up in the tubulent eara of the 60's. A time where there was a sudden and sharp decline in the moral, ethical, and other value systems. It marked a breaking point with the values of thier fathers that had been in place in this country for a hundred or more years. Family values declined. The idea of breaking laws became acceptable. Look at the proliferation of illeagle drug use.

These people and there children are the ones now responcable for the corupt and short sighted policies of our country today. Greed, personal gain, and short term gratifacation have replaced the work ethics that built the strength of this once great country. Is it really so diffrent from the economic, milatary, and moral decline that preceaded the fall of the roman empire?

Now look at today's culture. Look at our children. Look at our schools and the state of our educational system. Look at how our children spend their free time. What lies in store for us over the next 50 odd years?

It's not totaly beyond hope. It's a big country and has a lot of enerta. On the other hand if all of this continues it will be that much harder to recover when commen sence returns.

Rome almost made it. The eastern empire survived better then the west and was poised to recapter and rebuild the land that it had lost. Unfortantly the black plage put an end to those hopes and it wasn't untill the population in europe had recovered enough that the renasance could beguine. My biggest fear is that we will meet some economic, health or millatary chalange and that will push the country over the edge of the cliff too steep to recover from.

In short. America isn't what it used to be. It's debateable as to whether it's still the greatest country on earth. It's teatering on the edge and if it falls it could take a lot of the world with it. I like a lot of the people am still clinging to it. praying for the great pendolum to begin to swing back. It's not too late to clean house. It's just a question of whether the country as a whole has or will have the currage and moral strength to do it.

In the mean time I'm replacing the hatches on my boat. It's a documented vessale and can cross any ocean on the earth. That's my "Go to hell plan" if all else fails. I have my escape planed out. what's your zombi plan?

As to this poor dumb bastered. I see a man not smart enough to see how to survive. A some what unstable personality to beguin with. He has an apithany and sees the truth of what is around him. It breaks him and being a little ascue to beguin with he reacts in this way. Pretty damned stupid really but the real question is why aren't you just as angry with our goverment? Not that this is any way to deal with it. It didn't acomplish a damnd thing but neather did rolling a few bales of tea off the deck of a boat. However heros and marters have been made of less then this. Maybe it's time for a congressanal revolution. Sign me up right now in the revolutionary army of the new congress! I by no means "hate" my country or our government, although I do not exactly like my government, agree with many of its policies, support it, and yes, I do fear it you might say.

Even though this is a great country in many ways (excluding the government), I would more than welcome an opportunity to live in another country for a couple of years.

For people that say, "Why don't you just leave?"...
And do what? You have to legally go live in another country and yes, a decently paying job would be nice. It is not that easy to "just leave."

and there in lays the crux of the situation. If your life was so miserable due to the pressures exalted by the government, then you would pack up and leave for a better life elsewhere, yes??? Isn't that what many of our ancestors did, left their birthplace with no job and only what they could carry in hopes of a better life? Isn't that what many people do throughout the world still today?

It's easy to be disappointed in our government these days, everything seems to be going to hell in a hand-basket. TR07 shared a video with me that I think is relevant in that perhaps we have come to expect too much from our government in the way of "moral high ground" and they can't help but to fall short. http://www.youtube.com/...ot#p/u/2/1SH7jeWpmhI

I am not so sure we are suppose to like the government any more than we should want them to parent us.

The question I am looking for an answer to is how do we break that tie to the government and get them out of our lives now that we have allowed "them" to become the big bad boogieman?

Personally, I don't think carrying out suicide missions killing fellow citizens to settle ones own grudge is the answer.

Edited to add: When you say government are you talking the 3 branches in D.C., the IRS, NASA, Post Office, Military, the list goes on and on...http://www.usa.gov/...Agencies/index.shtml. If you attack the IRS, is it okay to attack the office of education tomorrow?

Ya, isn't that amazing. When our for fathers sat out to create our govermental system I seem to recall they layed out fairly specific and rather limited powers, goals, and responsabilities for that goverment. Some thing about provideing for the commen defence... Some body help me out on the wording I don't want to miss quote it. But I think they would be apsoultly appaled. WTF how did we get here? You can only let things go so far and then you have to clean house. I think this country will soon be ripe for revolution.

I propose the creation of a new political party. One dedicated to the sole purpouse of out voteing all incumbent canadates. A holder of an elected office, if he does his job as he should, will never be realected. Only boughing to the pressure of coruption can he ever hope to be reelected. Only when that hope and pressure nolonger exist can we ever hope that they will vote there contence or perform their job. Congress shouuld be cleaned out at least as often as your house, or exspect it to be just as messy. Spring cleaning time! Once we have enough support I prpose the interduction of a bill makeing it illeagal for a polotision to run as an incombant. I woul further like to one day like to see an amendment forming another branch of congress. This is a Hineline idea, A house solely dedicated to repealing laws. I think he proposed a 2/3 majority for the creation of a law, but only a 1/4 minority vote to dis band it. Let the dead wood be cleared out of our leagle system and burned. Let goverment programs be dissbanded. and let the pork belly polatisions be roasted with an apple in their mouth.

it's odd. a lot of folks openly vent against the size of the US government, but few want to cut the Military, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, or Homeland Security.

if we don't touch these, how can any significant reductions in government occur?

few who complain about deficit spending volunteer to lose a benefit or tax deduction.

smaller government and balanced budgets sound good to everyone, but look vastly different depending on who is talking. no one wants their ox gored.

Re: [RiggerLee] Austin Plane Crash
I'd like to see many sectors of the government privatized and all assets sold to the highest bidder, to name a few: the post office, the DMV, the DOT, the department of education, and utility companies. Why, because the only way the government can become less oppressive and demanding in regards to taxing and controlling the people is to become much, much smaller than it currently is. Unfortunately, I don't see this happening any time soon, because so many people are dependent, directly or indirectly, on government jobs.

A small real world example of government control at work: A coworker of mine lived in GA during a period of drought. The people of the area where he lived were asked to cut back on water use. They did, and soon the local water utility company, govt owned, realized that they were not bringing in enough money to support their employees. Instead of using a temporary layoff to cut costs, as any private company that has to compete with other private companies would do, they jacked up the price of water and it never came back down.

Our country is filled with students who care much more about
their cell phones, reality TV, and which rapper or sports star
just got arrested for slapping/cheating/dog fighting, etc. than
learning, reading, playing chess, or practicing logical thinking.

WE need longer school years, mandatory uniforms, real physical
education, no vending machines, and zero tolerance of bullshit
attitudes by students & parents.

Oh, and not everyone should go to college, some people, like
my father, excel much more at working with their hands hence
we need to embrace real vocational training during high school.

RE: politics

WE are simply FUCKED!! The Supreme Court recently allowed
unions and corporations to openly "BUY" any politician on the
city, state, and federal level. If someone gave me $12 million
I sure as shit would listen to whatever they had to say.

Now if WE prohibited politicians from: advertising on the tube,
spamming our email, and calling our homes for money THEN the
assholes would be less beholden to the special interests that have
enough money to buy what's left of their souls.

Our politicians are too dim to understand the difference between

PS: about the size of government

Some countries drive on the left and others drive on the right.
Either way works fine if you stick to it. In our country one side
wants lower taxes and the other side wants more benefits, their
comprise is to do both which does NOT work.

Lastly, Zach, Public Utilities, such as Water and Electric are:
Natural Monopolies, meaning having two electric companies in

Some cities DO have more than one electric company, though usually they share the same grid. This good for consumers who can choose which company they want to buy electricity from to get better service, pricing, and/or support greener production.

Other cities sometimes have more than one electric company with separate electric grids. This is good for attracting large companies looking to build fault tolerant data centers attached to more than one grid.
