best ground crew, ever.
So, I've got this dog... She's an Australian Shepherd, almost a year old. Today, it was nice but windy, so i thought i would go out and scout a local freestander i've been looking at. Its pretty remote there, so i figured 2:30pm wouldn't matter. I went around the back side of the building, outside the fence, tied my dog to the fence, gained access, and started climbing.
Once i got to the top, i heard the dreaded sound of tires crunching on gravel....for reference, this could only be tower techs or Park Rangers.
Cautiously peering over the edge, i see that today of all days in this middle of nowhere site, the tower techs have come to do something or other. Just then it dawned on me that i have a youngish dog tied up almost (almost) in view of the guys coming in...I'm thinking, "this bitch is going to give me away, for sure..."
My mind starts trying to come up with some reason why i am on top of their tower, just knowing in my bones that someone is going to climb up and find me...
They went to the building, the doorway being maybe 15 feet from my crouching dog. This, i fear, is when shit is going to go haywire.
I stifle a laugh at the absurdity and surreal nature of what is happening. The guys go into the building, and i briefly wonder if i can climb 240' down quietly and quickly enough to get away while they're still inside. Age and wisdom take over and i stay put, wondering if my dog is still alive. Had we been at home, she would have barked her fucking head off... hmmm.
The techs do whatever inside, and leave almost 2 hours later. As i'm climbing down in utter amazement at not getting caught, I take a second to look for my dog. Sure enough, there she is, hunkered down, hidden behind a tree, as though she knew to remain unseen and quiet.
Now that, folks, is some seriously cool-headed ground crewing!
I think 'll keep her around!
