Re: [tr027] Sloppy work
Sounds like a good job after being detected though, wouldn't ya say?
Take care,

Could've been, depending on circumstances we're not aware of; backing off to prevent newspaper headlines could've also been a better route.

Re: [tr027] Sloppy work
No name, no photos, no video, no injury, no death...
Yeah, I need more information to call it "sloppy".

Yes, I agree 4 AM is usually safer than 2ish AM but
I've done it and bet many on here have also.

Re: [tr027] Someone was seen
Just curious, have you been here? Why would you feel being seen by one overzealous person and being reported is Norm for Norcal?

One person sees the jump occur. News must be slow if they're reporting a single jump at 2:18 in the morning.

People are bound to be seen on occasion. I have no details nor do I know who this was so I don't know how the employee noticed.

Did you read the first comment? The jump may not have even happened.

If the employee saw him on the roof. Do you think he would have been let go if he backed off? I am actually surprised it made the news with only a single witness.

We both know better than that. The motives/reward for such a hoax aren't quite compelling either.

Again, that depends and we still don't know. Couldve also been that he was strolling in the lobby with rig on talking about jump plans and someone overheard.

Re: [] Someone was seen
Seems like a near perfect jump. One person saw them ?

Cmon, for an urban 2AM jump it went pretty well. It could have been better, but I never heard of getting ass kicked for being almost perfect :)

Not to mention that 30 stories is damn low for a parachute to open anyways.

Yeah, from my experience I'd agree that employees patrol the roof all the time TongueWink

If I had to make a guess, he tripped an alarm either by accident or by choice.

My comment about the hoax was in jest :)

He shouldve lit the building on fire to cause a distraction. Then nobody wouldve seen him jump.

Re: [Kiki32] Sloppy work
Ive spoke with the jumpers involved, and i believe what they say. They did everything right as far as SOP for the Building, they just had bad luck. A quicker then normal response time by the security. Which happens in Base jumping.

Re: [ChrisHall] Sloppy work
few people look up. fewer would recognize a BASE jump. and most people probably will not call authorities.

it sounds like the witness might be a narc or a security guard somehow made familiar with BASE. any sloppiness might have been on an earlier jump. Shocked

(just guessing, and yes, I could be wrong!)

Weall get "caught" somtimes. just sounds like the guys were seen by a doo gooder who thought theys doin the rite thing.

Its BASE people not Bowling. NorCal has a bunch of top shelf fixed object hobbists per capita and in raw numbers than most in the USofA so , no man i doubt it the "norm" over ther.

nothing perfict. wait til this hapins to u "tr027" are gonna say: "Man i botched it, man i was sloppy, man this is my new NORM?

yeah im sober at work.

fuck off! Sly

Re: [ChrisHall] Sloppy work
this situation may be an extension of the "is publicity good or bad?" discussion.

sponsored jumpers love publicity and the awareness it brings. (it sounds like at least one person witnessed this jump, and that jumper had some awareness.)

I personally enjoy jumping where the public's awareness of jumping is low. I care little for adulation.

and yes, I might be wrong. feel free to disagree.

Yes, Smile actually that's probably what I'll say. At least that is what I said when I had a strike and still made a squeaky clean, no injury evacuation. It's this darn perfectionist streak with a scrutiny of detail that makes me too serious and I wrestle with it at times.

Re: [vid666] Someone was seen
Only one person saw him?? this is far from perfect!

When ever you BASE Jump you need people to see you jump, the most people the better. A BASE Jumper needs to show regular people how cool, and crazy we are.

If there is no one watching the jump, if their is no one to impressed, then what's the point in risking you life in the first place?

We have to get news and cameras involved, we need people to see us jump!

Re: [tr027] Sloppy work
I live and jump in the SF, I dont care what time of day it is, someone will see you jump in a city sooner or later. That crowd of homeless people, the drunkards woo hooing it for you, the fat security guard from an adjacent building in awe of you, the short security chasing you down an alley, the pedestrian who thought that was the coolest shit ever. Jumping in a city that has anything worth while to jump will have people around the object. Someone will see you, even if you think you got away lickity split. They just didn't give a fuck. Or at least narking you out was too much work. If they do care, Cest la vie.

Re: [ChrisHall] Sloppy work
haha "Sloppy?"

No offense but the OP obviously is not an urban jumper... The jumper just got unlucky in that one of the people who saw him wasn't half asleep/ actually gave a shit. Then again I'm talking NYC/ JC here, its not the "city that never sleeps" for no good reason
