Peru: Non Jumping
Hey, I am looking at going to Peru in June to do the Inca Trail Trek, but rather than the tourist trap of Machu Picchu, I would prefer to do something a little more off the tourist trail going somewhere a little less well known and doesnt have a tourist train to the top Smile - but still with access to hiring a guide.

Any suggestions / experiences on where to start looking at? I have a few ideas, but would like to get anyone with experiences there to share their thoughts.

Thanks

Mac

A couple we are friends with visited Peru,
they hired a pilot to fly them over the
famous land lines for a fair price.

my wife & i did this a couple of years ago
incredible!!! highly recommended
since you take 4 days to walk the inca trail to machu picchu (thru the andes, over dead woman pass (+13k ft)), you arrive @ the sun gate before sunrise & are @ mp before the bus loads of non-hikers, so it's not too touristy - until mid morning when the buses show up - but then you can take off & climb the 'peak' next to mp - the name of which escapes me now, but is in the attached photo - 4 o'clock from the ruins. btw, the sun gate is the notch in the mountains @ 10 o'clock
our group was 15 hikers, 2 guides (very knowledgeable) & 15 porters. the porters carried everything (except your 'daybag' (your other kit had to weigh 15 kg or less)). they would run ahead & set up, cook lunch & then clean up/pack up after we left, run past us to cook dinner & set up camp. those dude rocked!
our guide's record time for the section we did was something insane like 7 or 8 hours, i thought we could have used another day . . .

hit me up on the pm if you have more specific queries
