Re: [lewissimo] Any body in Tonsai from 22 to 28 FEB?
Actually I have been to the place already last year.
To get to Tonsai beach you have to go to Krabi Town and from there take a boat to Tonsai Beach. *TIP- Bring a plastic bag or something to keep your rig away from the salt water that might spill during the boat trip from Krabi to TonSai. Obviously you should carry your rig on your lap to avoid that it goes to the deck of the boat and gets wet.
There are several different exit points over there on different hills, but I just jumped from the one right next to the freedom bar at Tonsai Beach-Krabi. It is approx. 400 feet high on a very overhanging wall. The Exit point itself is not easy to find and the climb goes on the south face of the hill right next to the freedom bar, located on the eastern side of Tonsai beach.
The way up to the exit point is NOT very obvious and NOT super safe. I highly recommend you to go with someone who already knows the way to the exact location of exit point (that was my case at least). I think that you can also try to find someone asking at the Freedom Bar. Probably a guide from a climbing store at Tonsai can take you there for your first jump, but I am not sure about that. The climb to the exit point can take up to one hour or even longer.
Bring water for the climb, it is hot there.
I think that the best time of the year to go is from November to April (dry season) but you can get more details on the address:

There are many very good, relatively cheap hotels and very nice restaurants in the area. (They used to be even cheaper some years ago). One good hotel is “Andaman Hotel”, ( http://www.andamannatureresort.com/ )
Tonsai Area is also excellent for climbing and deep water soloing. There are few climbing stores in the area where you should get some advice on bolt quality before hitting any climb.
I am going there again and if I have any further info I will let you know.

Last time I was there no one knew the ACTUAL way to the top, they just told me about a Brit that slipped and fell after it rained.
Someone told me that there was an Icelandic jumper that jumped all around that area, but he was not around when I was there.

Good luck, it is a BEAUTIFUL beach, wish I got to jump that cliff.

Just got back from Tonsai today. We were 5 of us and meet 2 other jumpers there. We were there for a week.

Stayed at Andaman Nature Resort which cost between 500-600 Baht a night. There is this huge yoga area at Mountain View Resort about 50 meters to left from andaman that was good for packing. There are also bungalows for 2000> Baht that comes with AC and hot shower. Lots of places to eat, drink, and party at Tonsai.

The weather was very windy throughout the mornings until afternoon. So we did one sunset jump each day. The climb up was hard for me. There are 3 sections with rope in the beginning. The first climber used a prusik rope for safety when climbing and belayed the rest of us. The climb was a little easier after but the rest were on razor sharp rocks and very scary. Exit point is a little hard to find at first. Best would be to go with someone that knows how to get there. There are some ropes towards the exit at the very end. You will need to climb down a little to the exit point. In total it took us about 2 hours to get to exit point. We start at 4:30PM and made it just nice for sunset.

Got a little sick from all the excitement and had to come home early. Would have liked to stay there a little longer.

BTW, on 24th Feb, KL tower maybe open for a few jumps if you around.

Peace,
Hizam

If you stay at krabi, it takes at least 0.5 hours to tonsai. I suggest you stay at Au Nang, only 15 minutes to Tonsai and the nearest town outside tonsai. You can travel everyday to tonsai. But remember that the last bot from tonsai is 1800 hours (thailand time)

Tonsai is a laid back nice place to stay, and hang out if you like to do some holiday jumping, climbing, diving, etc etc. I would not prefer to stay in Krabi or Ao Nang, but it is up to you.

I agree with you. Better stay at Tonsai and you can do a lot of activities rather than you wasting money travel by boat everyday. I miss jumping at Tonsai...

Yeah, definitely stay in Tonsai. If you wanted to start jumping early, getting a long tail 1st thing in the morning seemed a bit on and off, although I was there at the start of the low season.

Plus Tonsai is way more laid back.

I was a little bit into travelling from one place to another and not with so much time to access the internet... Sorry for the delay on my reply.
I see many information coming out in regards of Tonsai and this is good info for me too. Thanks for these posts!!!
Now I am here at Tonsai living the dream and will try a jump tomorrow (Tuesday) early morning.
In case anybody shows up I will be in the Countryside resort. Tonsai is a small place and most local people know were it is located.
