gear ??
O.K., I don't know much about base, been to bridge day a couple of times, made the landing area both times. Once under a sharpchuter, and again under a fury 220 zp topskin. I have quite a few skydives under these parachutes. I load the fury at .89 geared up. My ? is if, and I mean if, a person planned only on basejumping at bridge day, and maybe in twin falls, slider up only! Would these canopy's be usable if they were to have a tailpocket installed, and packed in a velcro rig? If these were usable, could they also be use for rollovers, tards ?? What about a pca, where opening speeds might be slower??

Re: [elkhound] gear ??
back in the day, people didn't have specific basegear.. so the fury was used very much. i won't do it with the sharpshooter. So.. if the canopy is in good shape, you definately can modify it with a tailpocket. Slider down, no problem.. but think about what you wanna do with a tailgate.. a rigger can help you with that. I made one myself for the raven i've jumped. packing in a velcro or 2pin rig... no problem!
good luck dude.. be smart, keep thinking.. don't do stupid stuff! grtz, wytse

Is a tailgate used slider up? I would only jump this set up slider up. Why not the sharpchuter? thanks

Re: [elkhound] gear ??
One problem I see is that the Fury or at least the one I used to jump has flares on them. These are triangle shaped pieces of F-111 between the lines and the bottom of the canopy. The slider can hang up on these especially on sub-terminal slider up jumps. I'm not sure about the Sharpshooter but you should check. If you have any questions PM me.

Re: [424base] gear ??
Maybe, If that is the case, maybe the superraven would be a better choice. My sharpchuter has the flares as well, but I had a great slider up jump at BD in 99 with it. Red at flight concepts swears buy this type of line attachment, but the fact that you don"t see it in base specific canopy's should tell us something. But I feel a superraven does not have as powerful a flare as a fury without zp on the top skin. I do have a SR 4 made in 2001, one reserve ride on.

Re: [elkhound] gear ??
If those three are your choices, go with the Raven IV.

Re: [gauleyguide] gear ??
OK, you say go with the raven, why? keep in mind, I will be skydiving this canopy 95% of the time.

My own personal oppinion. I own a Raven, and I just bought another one. My skyrig is a Dolphin and I jump my Raven, NO D-bag, with a fine mesh slider, simi-pro packed, direct and indirect slider stowes, tail pocket, WLO toggles, the whole nine yards, and that is on 100% of my skydives.

Ive jumped all four objects with a Raven, slider up and down/off, never any problems, yet.

Let me add: the only reason I bought another Raven is because its #1: red and white, #2: its cheap, and #3: back to the red and white part, its a Canadian thing.

what is your wing loading? Are you freepacking it in the dolphin on objects? thanks

Its loaded ~.80, depending on if its the Holidays or not.Wink

No I do not, I have a BASE rig, HOWEVER I did in the past at BD in '06 when it was "okay" to do so, and a few PCA's and S/l with it, but no more.Blush

Re: [elkhound] gear ??
i wonder why not just borrow or rent as infrequently as you're planning on using the set-up?

Re: [elkhound] gear ??
why not leave the skydive gear at the dropzone and use a BASE rig? karnowski has a complete rig for sale in the classifieds for $800. offer him a mouth hug and i bet he'll sell it for $600.

problem solved

I have many base jumps on fury's. Both slider up and down. You'll want to deepen the break setting. but other then that I have no complaints. The Flares, at least the modern design, are very strong. It's an excelent construction method. Nothing wrong with it. That tape is actualy continuous all the way up to the top of the rib. They do have a slider stop on the out side A line. It just floates on the end of the flare. I'm not sure why he feels he needs that there but It on all of his canopies. There have been two cases of a line hitching around that A line stop. That's out of god only knows how many jumps on the things. They've beenbuilding canopies that way for some thing like 30 years. so don't sweat it.

The Fury is a Pegasus. He had to make a change to make it different so the flares were added.

Yes, but they were actualy built by the same guy, Mike Fury. He had to change them to avoid a pattent on direct line attachment points. That was the transition from Dejango to Glide Path, Now it's known as Flight Concepts.

Exactly! I posted too quickly without adding details since my break was over.
