Someone on dz.com was looking for information about Mike Steele's career -- I thought some californuns might remember him. Army team, style and accuracy competitor. He died in the early 80's on an aff jump. At the time he was allegedly suspended from uspa for jumping el cap.... Can anyone confirm this.

I remember he died around the same time as jeannie mccombs and I remembered something about her also having been kicked out of uspa before she died. Was this also for jumping el cap?

Any others of the people that were suspended for that transgression that died shortly thereafter?

Don't mean to jump off your subject but...wtf do's uspa have to do with us?....and what gives them the right to do such a thing

Happened a lot in the UK. People would lose all their ratings too so if that was your livelihood then BASE could cost you your primary source of income. Crazy.

Took me a while a to wrap my head around this also...
Seems way back in the day there was a major split within
the US jumping community about BASE... of course some
no longer care while others on both sides try to fan the fire.


I have a dream, a dream where flat fliers and free fliers
can share beers after their respective jumps, a day when
BASE jumpers & SKY jumpers can share safety meetings.


Can't we all just get along?
