ContourHD X GoPro HD
Any particular reason for choosing one instead of the other? I already have 2 miniDVs and one CX100 and plan to use it for BASE only.
I was comparing the specs of both and found 2 apparent disadvantages of the ContourHD which are:
- Less frames per second (30 instead of 60 on the GoPro);
- Only USB output (GoPro has Audio and Component video);

I have also the impression that the ContourHD shape makes it more slim and easy to mount. Does anyone know more advantages?

Another important difference is about the lenses:

ContourHD - 720p / 960p (135º) , 1080p (110º)

GoPro HD - WVGA / 720p / 960p (170º), 1080p (127º)

The lenses are the reason I'm not interested in either of these cams. As a semi-professional videograhper, I find the blurring, vignetting, and chromatic aberration too much to bear. But it's probably not a big deal for most people.

Soo... I have been product testing the GoProHD and Countour HD. (both are 1080P)

sorry to say for the countour, but it kinda sucks. in picture quality and versatility at least.

in the highest format at 30fps in both, the gopro file is MUCH cleaner and faster.

the gopro is also significantly wider.

and the gopro takes pictures, 5mp, every 2 seconds or on demand.

both will do 60fps but the gopro is limited to 720p in that category.

also, GoPro is waterproof to 180' and countour is only considered water "resistant".

A nice touch in Norway for those jumps in the rain, or fjord landings ;-)

testing has been literally side by side.

1 airplane wingsuit, 5000' of speed flying, 10,000' skiing, and an hour of paragliding.

the GoPro looks like a plastic tumor, and proves a somewhat higher line snag potential, and the buttons are hard to push with gloves on. but other than that wins.

the contour looks cool, is really easy to hit "record" and includes a memory card. (micro SD) but the picture quality of the contour seems more compressed even if they both are 1080P. also, the light sensing on the gopro can be changed in the field, including white balance, etc. the contour must be done via computer.

ANS the contour rear panel thing likes to fall open.

GoPro mounting: B (tons of options, most included)
Contour mounting:D ( the goggle mount works but is lame, and the sticky flat surface mount falls off, more so than the gopros)

the gopro customer service SUCKS big time! the camera is really nice though and i like it!
